So I can just make that folder structure up, and put in the mov and thm files, and then log and transfer that? Cool. Should I preserve the original CF card breakdown? ie create new folder structures per individual card files, or can I create just one big new folder structure and put all files in, independent of whether they were originally recorded to separate cards. Thanks. Did give me a total # – but ironically it’s one clip less than the # I thought it should be. Files were imported HDSLR Pro Res 422 LT transcodes from external drive – 312 of those confirmed at finder level, but FCP bin showing 311. So now I’m nervous. Nick.

For this particular batch of 5D files, basically created new folders (on external drive) for each new CF card, and selected and dragged files at finder level from the card into these new folders. Then created a larger shoot day folder they all lived in. But for each card transfer I did copy all the contents – .mov and .thm files.

Am I beyond the point of being able to use log and transfer to transcode these files? Should I also somehow recreate that original CF card structure?

Well I know the associated .THMs were copied, and obviously the H264s – and my folder structure at least mimics the original CF cards (ie just one set of CF card files that were put in one new folders, I didn’t put the files from multiple CF cards in one folder.) Was my very first 5D shoot well, so not really sure what an original CF card file structure looks like (don’t have the original cards anymore.) Any chances now?

Presumably in future in field I’ll want to transfer from CF card to external drive using Disk Image function in Disk Utility app or ShotPut pro.

Many thanks David. Yes, I’d like to try and make this work in Flash first – for personnel and workflow reasons.

Understood about exporting as a PNG. But I didn’t realize PNG was also a digital motion file type – I thought it was just a pic file type? I’m assuming the PNG creates some kind of embedded alpha?

The Avid sequence we’re cutting this flash into is not 16×9 letterbox but SD widescreen (anamorphic.) What should be platform specs be in that case? Also, anything special I should do with my Avid import settings when bringing in this PNG?
