    Hi Brian,
i think the best option would be to hire a kit i’m afraid. You can hire the sennheiser kit for around £10/day £40/week here in the UK so it must be similar over there wth you. Unfortunatley you just cant get a decent wireless sytem with 400 dollars. Is just not in your budget so I wouldnt even consider buying one.

April 25, 2008 at 5:42 pm in reply to: EDL from AVID to FCP

hi there, i use the Avid edl to FCP allt he time and it works fine for me. The difference is recapture the clips, rather than reconnecting exsisitng material. So that could be an option for you.

Also have you tried other EDl formats. I use CMX3600, but there are loads of others, GVG etc so try a few, it might make a difference.

    Hi adam,
i am here in PAL land and would be very suprised if any broadcaster accepted MPegs. I imagine the ‘delivery’ company you are sending this to has it wrong. And in 2 months they will request a deliverable format! I would make a digi just in case

    David,
Am i correct in think that after you change the sequence settings, you need to add the Shift Field filter that comes with FCP, otherwise the fields are in the wrong order. FCP adds te filter automatically when you add a DV clip to an 8bit timeline, but not if you just change the settings. If you dont you will notice juddering effects on moving images.

December 7, 2007 at 3:58 pm in reply to: HDV to SD digi-beta

    Hi Ceri,
FCp only adds the shift fields filter when you add clips into a timeline. If you instead, duplicate your timeline, press Apple-0 and change the seetings to Uncompressed, you find the shift fields filter hasnt been added, and you can render away.

By the way I partially de-interlace most of my footage, as it removes the harsh movement of video, and, (as some people say) makes it look more filmic. However i have noticed that when slo-moing and adding the deintlace filter, and then uprezzing to uncompressed the slomo footage stutters. As far as i can make out it’s just one to many operations for the render manager. So i mixdown the slomo in the offline as a quicktime movie, then import that into my upressed sequence, add deinterlace and online filters and its some as you like.

    cheers

October 31, 2007 at 6:33 pm in reply to: DV to SD10bit interlace problems

    Hi guys,
yeah unfortunately i’m still on FCp 5.1.4, and i’ve never been happy wit FCp slomo. Will think about the upgrade if you think FCP6 is better.

But in therms of jasons problem, i defintely suggest exporting a dv version, lower field first, then importing that into the 10bit sequence (thereby adding the shift field filter after the slomo has been done. Its the dual change of uprezzing/field shiting and slomo that creates the crappy shuddering motion.

October 30, 2007 at 2:03 pm in reply to: DV to SD10bit interlace problems

    Hi Jason,
i have had this problem too. I find the FCP slowmo bad at the best of times anyway.

Have you tried deinterlacing too (using stibs free version, try all the settings).

What i have found working for me is the following:
-finish and grade the slowmo sections, but in a DV sequence, without shift fields and deinterlace filters
-export each one as a dv quicktime
-then import and place in 10-bit timeline, adding shift fields (will be added automatically)
-add dinterlacing if you have elsewhere in the film

This makes the slomo smoth for me

    cheers

October 9, 2007 at 8:55 am in reply to: component to composite or S-Video?

Not sure what digi deck you are using, perhaps give us the model, but almost all digibeta decks have composite output, in fact most have 3. But it will be a BNC not a phono connection. Get a BNC to phono adapter, not more than a couple of quid, and it should work fine. The output will be marked Analogue video 1 (or 2 or 3!)
