September 18, 2011 at 7:14 pm in reply to: unstable pixels after applying Keylight 2.0 in FCP7…Hi Jerry,
Thank you for your continued help. I just did what you said and saw no sizzle in the original green screen footage. This problem occurs only after applying Keylight. Still trying to figure out how to tweak my Keylight settings to minimize this.
What Keylight settings do you yourself tweak to minimize the sizzling pixels around the edge?

September 15, 2011 at 5:12 pm in reply to: Chromakey issue: noise in dark areas after applying Keylight 2.0Hi Dave,
No problem at all. I just figured it out. I had the lower clip on alpha matte instead of the upper one, my bad.
Now no noise, poof! all gone! exactly as you explained. Thanks so much for the tip! I like the humor about the gun! 🙂 -

Dave, I don’t see any change at all after applying the alpha matte to the top clip in FCP. The noise is still there. My Keylight settings for this clip are:
Screen Gain:1
Clip White: 0.5
Screen Blur: 2.8
Clip Black: 0.43 / Clip White: 0.61
Screen Dilate: 1
Screen Softness: 0.2 -

When copying from VHS tapes to mini-DV, is there any loss of resolution as well???
Thanks in advance.

Yes, the stock footage material was sent to me on data DVDs, but I need to upconvert the SD footage to HD, and I know the best way to do that is via hardware. So how would I go about doing that?
Do I not need to drag the NTSC SD files into FCP7 then print to mini-DV tape in order to reimport via Kona LHi upconversion?

August 1, 2011 at 7:39 pm in reply to: how do you get “BG Just Strobe it” strobe effect to work in FCP X???Hi Brendon,
I had no idea the effect was yours. Congratulations and thanks very much for developing this effect and especially for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate it.
While I learn FCP X as best I can, I can’t wait for those badly needed FCP X updates that will hopefully eliminate those goofy glitches like the “in” and “out” points constantly disappearing as soon as you leave the event browser. That drives me nuts. Keeping my fingers crossed that the pro updates for FCP X come this year. Thanks again for your help.

August 1, 2011 at 3:26 am in reply to: how do you get “BG Just Strobe it” strobe effect to work in FCP X???Thanks very much. Not to complain, but it seems to me like the Strobe Effect that I used to apply with a simple click in FCP7 now requires what seems like 10 steps.
First I have to insert the effect in the timeline, then retime the effect to match the time of the clip, then select the clip to insert inside the effect. Then repeat this complex process all over again for every single strobe effect for each clip. In FCP 7, it was a simple one click command then “copy and paste effects attributes” option.
Struggling to adapt to the new paradigm. It just seems like every edit command in FCP X takes 10 times longer to execute than it did in FCP7, partly because of all the mousing over that has to be done instead of instant keyboard shortcuts.
Thanks for your help.
