January 4, 2012 at 1:00 am in reply to: “Final Cut Pro wants to make changes” bug??? how do get rid of this???Hello and thank you both for replying. No, not rendering anything, just trying to open my Final Cut Pro 7 project, nothing more. I get that annoying window every single time I open FCP7 though.
I can’t imagine what’s causing it. I now wonder if I might not have to totally uninstall and reinstall Final Cut Studio, arrgh!!! I hope not. Will try running disk utility (repair permissions) and hope it fixes it.

December 29, 2011 at 4:29 am in reply to: “Error out of memory” issue, and I can’t change wrong editing timebase setting…FCP7Hi Stephan,
Thanks very much. Regarding the images, I did not know that it was better to use Motion for any Ken Burn style effects. I always used FCP to do all my animated zooms and pans and never encountered any problems. But yes, it could be because I’m now working with much higher res stills.
If you don’t mind me asking, what is the best photo format to use when zooming on stills or compositing? There are so many image formats out there, I’m not sure which one to I should be using for HD video: Photoshop, Tiff, Pct, png??? I’m sure any of these will be better than jpeg format. But which image format would you recommend for animating/compositing inside Motion or FCP?
My original project was done in SD (480i) but I planned to up-converted everything to HD 720p60. I now think I should have upconverted to 1080i29.97 instead of 720p60. But 1080i seemed to be too much of an up-conversion with WWII footage that already looked soft when up-converted to 720.
I up-converted most of my clips via hardware (Matrox MXO 2) to 720p60. But strangely it’s only my voice over that seems to cut out everywhere along the A1 (voice over) track in the 720p60 timeline. But this issue only occurs in the 720p60 timeline. Not in the 480i 29.97 timeline.
Thanks for any further advice you can give me.

October 1, 2011 at 2:16 am in reply to: can you morph one shape into another in After Effects CS 5.5???Sorry I looked up your tutorial. I applied the Mesh warp but all I get is a grid. Where you can move columns and rows, and a quality setting. Can you elaborate a bit further how this works?
Thank you in advance.

September 24, 2011 at 5:00 pm in reply to: unstable pixels after applying Keylight 2.0 in FCP7…Hi Michael,
Regarding my continuing issue with noisy pixels around the rim of my Keylight 2.0 composite, I uploaded a short (3 second) clip for you here:
Can you just tinker with it and tell me what you recommend?

September 22, 2011 at 3:38 pm in reply to: unstable pixels after applying Keylight 2.0 in FCP7…Hi Michael,
Just did a number of tests in Motion 5 and I must say I’m amazed at Motion 5’s built-in chromakeyer. I’m getting even better results than I ever did with Keylight 2.0, with only a couple clicks. I’ll be posting my latest test later today. Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks again for your help.

My sequence codec is Apple ProRes 1080p24 (shot in AVCHD 1080p24 on a Panasonic AF100).
Then “Export using Quicktime Conversion” at Best Quality (H.264) to upload to Vimeo. -
