at the lower left of the timeline is a (very) small button with blue & green lines
click this for “Clip Keyframes” view!
it opens up anpther layer under your clips, where BLUE lines represent motion effects,
and GREEN lines represent filters.
keyframes are also included, and a great way to quickly move keyframes is in this view
you can also toggle Clip Keyframes with Option T

and what format is your source video?
and sequence settings?

is your external video playback setting the appropriate one?
if you’re trying to play, for instance, PAL footage out via an NTSC setting, you can get the effect you describe.

Title Exchange Pro from Spherico FilmTools can do this for you quite quickly.
it’s a bit on the expensive side if you’re an indie production, but it does save you a lot of time !
in Demo mode it can do 50 titles at a time.

TWO TRACKS or ONE ??

in your case you have two “Styles” a single line and a double line,
so you’d have to separate them on different tracks, and do two passes.
this probably true for whichever technique you use going forward.

UNLESS…

you’d be best of is you had a subtitle generator which you could bottom justify,
Spherico makes Text UP
Digital Heaven makes DH Sub
Bourke’s VideoToolshed may have one as well?

they also have drop shadow and/or outline controls.

if you chose to do it manually there are some timesaving approaches:
(the following assumes you chose to get one of the subtitle generators mentioned above.
if you don’t the only difference is you have to do a separate pass for each “Style” of sub you need)

the general idea is that you have your old subs on one track,
and on another track you have your new subtitle template,
for each old sub, there’s a new template ready on another track,
and you just copy / paste the TEXT from one into the other.

quickest way to set this up:

– get all your subs onto one track, for example V6
– put a new title generator into the viewer, set it’s duration to be the whole length of the timeline
– cut it into the timeline on a new track, say V7
– copy that up to V8 (SHIFT+OPTION drag it up)

– select all your old subs on V6 (track tool (T) is useful)
– hold SHIFT+OPTION and drag them up to V7
– delete. now you have a reverse pattern of all your subs
– select this reverse pattern on V7
– SHIFT drag it up to V8,
– delete, and there you are.

now, if you’re that way inclined you could program a series of keyboard shortcuts in QuicKeys or Keyboard Maestro that would do all the work of opening the sub on V6 and copying the text into the template on V8.

hmm.. i know I’ve done this, so i may have the relevant QuicKeys macro available to give you.

i’ve done it a few times myself.

check the XY values both in the generator itself, and the motion tab.

FWIW, I’ve been running FCP7 on Yosemite machines for the last couple of years at least, and it runs fine for the most part.

the only issue i’ve had is that the colour picker doesn’t work the way it used to,
and matching colours in the colour corrector plug-ins needs to be done manually now.
lucky i don’t do a lot of colour grading in FCP !

a 2014 machine could run Yosemite.
