well it shouldn’t zoom IN, but yes, the playhead is at the tail of the clip, ready for the next edit.
just hit your up arrow to get back to the start of the clip if that’s what you want.

October 5, 2015 at 6:51 am in reply to: How can I best convert CFHD to Pro Res?

there are settings within Compressor that can change the playback speed of the new file to 24fps,
but i don’t know what they are!
it;s potentially hazardous as a simple error would lead to an un-usable file
so i simply open the file in CinemaTools and “Conform” it.

  • “If you wanted to ingest a section of say a GoPro clip- you’d be de-compressing and recompressing and losing a generation”

in FCP 7 at least, it only recompresses the frames outside of the nearest I frame.
(this is with HDV and XDCam)
so just add handles, and all is good.

one last thing, well 2 actually.

your new 4444 masters should also be 4k
im sure you intend this, but it doesn’t hurt to mention it.

    but manly: ProRes proxy?
    consider ProResLT
it’s a very sweet spot between quality and file size.
    Proxy looks noticeably poor,
LT looks pretty good, and makes for great screenings.

i’ve cut quite a few features using LT.

    cheers,

sorry, i overlooked those details first time around.
yes, that’s a very good approach.

once you’ve made the new masters make sure they are backed up.

    hope the project goes well

    re-install?

maybe Digital Rebelion’s FCP remover could help you clean out the old version first

“All the 25fps footage is MOS montage footage. ”

conforming will not be a problem.

did you shoot RAW or ProRes?
if ProRes, then simply conform those camera originals before striking your edit media.
if RAW… well i don’t know about that.

could be you need to set the TC rate on those clips to “24@25”

    talk to your post house,
a few simple tests might be in order
but i don’t see it being too much of a problem.

you do realise you’re the one who brought it up?
