    before you MM,
copy the sequence into a new project.
this will break all Master / Affiliate relationships, and might fix your problems.

another big gotcha with MM is clips without reel#s will not be trimmed.

    i like FCP Attic:

it has more functionality, and i prefer the design

the number one reason why MM doesn’t trim media is that the media has no reel#

it assumes (correctly, IMO) that if there is no Reel# then the file did may not exist in any other form,
and therefore should NOT be trimmed.

March 6, 2007 at 1:13 am in reply to: Multiclip audio issue in FCP

you would have to merge both audio tracks onto each clip before you make a multiclip from it.

beware this can cause multiclips to have weird sync issues, if the new audio track is longer than the original.
the only way i found to get around this is to link the clips in the timeline,
    open them in the viewer,
    and make a subclip.
    this “trims” any excess audio,
    and makes the multiclips behave.

alternatively, if you are cutting an event from the 2 cameras, and not messing with the timeline on your first pass,
you could probably just lay both tracks down in the timeline against the multiclip.

  • mark-up the A cam.
to make life easier, get all the markers over onto the B-cam.
    make the multiclip.

    then work from that.

2 ways to copy markers from A to B:
    1)
    put A in timeline,
    open B in viewer.
find common sync point on both.
    gang viewer & canvas
go to fist marker in timeline clip
    Q to move to viewer
    M to mark
    Q to move to canvas
Shift down arrow to move to next marker

    repeat

    Q, M, Q, down arow

    2)
    mark-up A, put in timeline,
put B on V2, and sync to A
Select all, park at head of timeline
Down arrow, (move to next marker)
    M ad marker

    repeat

    Down arrow, M

when done drag marked up B cam to browser,
    delete un-marked version.
    make multiclip

neither of these will copy any marker info across,
but it will make navigating a bit easier

raf, you’re talking about exporting SEQUENCES.
they take on the timecode of the sequence.

if you export a CLIP from FCP as a QuickTime Movie it retains the clip;s original TC

February 21, 2007 at 12:27 pm in reply to: The Better Deck

The flap comes off because it is designed to.

(or the design is deliberately left at an early, inadequate stage.)

    the thinking is:
    Flap falls of,
    dust gets in,
    machine breaks
    you buy another one.

    or maybe i’m being cynical….

last time i put my DSR11 in for repairs the guys tried to fix the flap back on.
    that lasted about 2 days.
now it’s held on with paper tape!

    cheers,

    hmm… that’s an interesting idea.

i’ve got a very vague recollection of being able to do that on a windows system,

    but in FCP, no.

    i’m not sure.

i do know that if you do the same thing in FCP all is well, quality-wise, and TC-wise.

you can also be a bit more accurate with your in/out points.
