    Hi there.

I’m having problems with a project. It was edited using DVCProHD 1080i – (over 80 hours of footage on 6 drives) and the editor is trying to send me a media managed version of the project on a G – Raid. He has selected the sequence – made clips independant then media managed it to me (Copy Media – Delete unused media – 2 second Handles, no angles, keep file names- put sequence in a new project – v simple)

Some of the media needs to be recaptured. When I got the Drive I found that inspite of the media managing with delete unused media some of the clips are still 48 minutes long (the original clip lengths) Why have these got through and how can I get them down to clip size?

The project has become corrupted and not very well looked after. There are over 1500 shots in the sequence.

I seem to remember this happening in FCP 3?

    Any ideas?

Media Manager usually screws up “delete media” when there’s speed effects on video clips.

Since you’re posting the same question to more than one FCP forum, please be sure to go back and close all of your threads by posting your solution.

Media Manager bites. If they did anything that monkeys with Apple’s weird familial dependencies like, say, multiclipping, subclipping, slow motion or still frames, MM will bonk.

If you must be part of this production, have them ship you the project files and the original tapes so you can recapture.

    [bogiesan] “Media Manager bites.”

I don’t think you have used the Media Manager in the last couple of years. Hell no it’s not perfect, but man it seems to work alright in later version of FCP and it’s never as bad as you make it to be. And for the record, why do always tell people to close multiple threads? Who cares? He posted here, he can close here if wants to or not. Like me, this is the first time that many of us has seen his question.

I would try to de-bloat the project as much as possible. Copy the seqeuence from the browser into a new project and close the old project. Having unconnected media could also cause problems.

And yes as mentioned, check speed changes and any 3rd party filters.

the number one reason why MM doesn’t trim media is that the media has no reel#

it assumes (correctly, IMO) that if there is no Reel# then the file did may not exist in any other form,
and therefore should NOT be trimmed.

    > I don’t think you have used the Media Manager in the last couple of years. Hell no it’s not perfect, but man it seems to work alright in later version of FCP and it’s never as bad as you make it to be. < You are to be applauded for having the patience and ability to have worked out your procedures so cleanly. I suffer from old habits, true. But when I do use Media Manager for any of its many purported uses, the results never reflect what I thought they'd be; that is "never." Your results are in direct opposition to mine. Someday I hope shall have developed your MM skills. > And for the record, why do always tell people to close multiple threads?< Because people like you would benefit from a synopsis of the various suggestions offered. The thread on Apple, with contributions from several top notch wonks, seems to support my point of view: The MM process is unnecessarily convoluted and fraught with gotchas. Your claims that MM works for you imply you have supreme skills. I bow to your abilities but for me, Media Manager bites. Totally. Without question. > Who cares? < I do, sort of, but only enough to request, as in "please close your threads," some small bit of online forum etiquette. It's important to me the conflicting advice and incorrect information be shared widely. > He posted here, he can close here if wants to or not. Like me, this is the first time that many of us has seen his question.< I don't really care if he closes any of them. But so many folks ask questions that result in threads full of conflicting or mutually exclusive answers. It would be great to know what helped and which suggestions were totally wrong. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
