I just discovered an external SSD via USB 3.0 has the best performance by making sure you have the right SATA III bridge with UASP support in an enclosure AND that same UASP needs to be available on your motherboard.

Not so simple to check with a laptop.

Anyone know of a database of motherboard schematics and which freeware diagnostics will tell you installed motherboard info so you can match to said database…? Or are motherboard diagrams heavily guarded secret…? lol

I immediately installed 7 x64 Pro when my machine arrived

I note your off the shelf machine spec differs very slightly to mine in that I have 16GB RAM and 4GB on the AMD card, but as we basically have the same machine and running different version of windows, it might be handy to try some comparisons along the way…?

I was going to buy an enclosure and put my spare SSD in it… and probably will… tho I do like the look of some of the external storage bays with onboard RAID controllers, but that can wait until my money tree begins to bear fruit. Ideally you need a Thunderbolt interface on your machine to take advantage of the real power that such a set-up can offer and of course you have T’bolt on your Mac Book Pro… I was looking at getting one but at 1500 quid it beat me at the moment. The Mac Pro is still on my list but I want to wait and get the right one at the right price.

However….I take delivery tomorrow of this baby.

Got it for £999… with 3 yrs international warranty… and I get 7 days to install and test vegas and if it ‘doesn’t suit my purpose’ I can send it back for a full refund… now that works for me !!!

I need a series of SVP 12 tests to run… can you suggest a pre selected benchmarking test package…?

Steve… can we set the Disable resample to default…?

I know there’s a hidden ‘Internal’ tab in prefs but I can’t find anything in there with the search menu unless it’s listed under something else

On occasion I’ve brought another clip into my project and forgotten to then disable resample until I see the rendered output and have to do it again…. pain… it should be default surely and then if for whatever reason you want to choose resample in some obscure situation you can do so.

Thanks John…. that model indeed has the same spec but with the 4K screen. I’ve read up how there are some scaling issues with 4k screens in laptops but 4k is not on my list for this … just the power to run Sony Vegas in a portable environment.

How is the time-line preview..? can you use HD files or do you find you need to use proxies…?

That’s logical… so therefore it matters not which direction the scaling happens in terms of output quality…?

I’m probably going to end up with about a 60/40 split of 720/1080.

BTW… I got a sync licence approved gratis from the 4 different copyright holders of the music track, so now it’s time to get the project completed and published.
