Hi Floh. Is there ever a reason to put the hardware codec back or can I just use the software codec indefinitely?

Hi Chuck. I have a client asking about streaming a meeting (lectures, yeah!). I’ve been looking into the Flash FLV format. You seem to have some experience with it. Any suggestions, warnings, etc? If you want to send email directly my address is nlammers@mediamillinc.com. Thanks.

Good luck. I think you’ll like it. Wow – 2″ VTRs! The largest I can claim is 1″ – I can’t say that I miss threading tapes.

Tim, I used to know the time/kb ratios but they’ve been “deleted from my hard drive” a long time ago. There may be a chart on the Media100 website, or maybe someone on the forum has the breakdown. I can say that I was previously digitizing at 100-150 kb and never noticed any artifacts in the video. I did, however, notice some “jaggies” on more complex graphics so I bumped up to 200 kb. Bottom line, the 100A shoots great video, in my opinion. I think the digitizing rate is a separate issue, whether you’re using the Media 100, another NLE, or another camera.

I have the DVX100A and I am very happy with it. I shoot a lot of interview in 24p mode but haven’t done many high action shots with it. I usually digitiize into the Media100 at 200 kb and haven’t had any problems. There is a forum on this site specifically for the 100A – you can probably get more useful info there.

I use this feature all of the time. After all of your clips are staggered, make sure you have a range over the entire section you want to add the transition to (either shift drag in the area below the time markers where the user marks appear or add an “in” and “out” point. Sorry if you already know that. Next, doubleclick on one of the transition arrows, set the transition you want in the edit suite and then go up to “apply transition to range.” That should do it.

  • Katrina, I use a Panasonic DMR-E85H for quick DVD recording. It has a built in hard drive that lets me record several programs to the drive and then dub what I want to the DVD. Of course, I can go directly to DVD if I wish. It also has a “Tivo-like” TV guide function that makes recording my favorite TV shows a breeze. The unit costs more than the model you mentioned earlier, but I’ve been very happy. Also, no compatibility issues yet.

I don’t know the easiest way to get the bins back, but couldn’t you go back into SW and export the program as an EDL? I’m hoping the imported EDL in 8.2.2. would recognize the original media – yes?

Hi. I’ve had the exact same problem with my DVCam footage – coming out componenet on a DSR-80. I too, digitized long clips, edited, tried to re-digitize and had all kinds of TC issues. I guess I’ll stop digitizing long blocks.

Another issue: I recently was editing a clip with video and synced audio. While on the program line, I lost sync. It was there, I started trimming and it was gone. I adjusted the video to match but I’m still scratching my head.

Lastly, does the DF/NDF setting the program ever have a detrimental effect?

Point well taken. Sorry, I’m in the decision process of either upgrading to Media 100 HD or jumping to another system and I’m probably over-concerned about Media 100’s future and their ability to keep theier current users.
