    Thanks Rohit,

That makes sense, so slot 3 of the expander should not used. I thought about stuffing a red rocket in there.

January 4, 2011 at 11:47 pm in reply to: understanding limitations of CUBIX expansion?

I have my cubix desktop 4 expander coming next week. I have to figure out how to use the slots.

I really want to get my 10g ethernet adapter into a slot faster than 4x. The 4x slot is killing performance.

These are the cards I will have.

    2 -FX4800 cards
    gt120
    decklink 3d
    Small tree 10gig card
    raid HBA

I’m thinking the mac will have
    slot 1 – expansion
    slot 2 – gt120
    slot 3 – Decklink
    slot 4 – Raid HBA

    Then in the cubix
    slot 1 – FX4800
    Slot 2 – FX4800
    slot 3 – small tree 10g
slot 4 – open for now.

I can’t wait for this stuff to come down in price. I have been running 10g for a year now. It’s currently just two stations sharing peer to peer at 300mb a sec. I have this setup becuase with smoke on mac and resolve the hardware is different and has to been seperate systems. It has changed my workflow so much. I’m never waiting for copies. Both systems have local raids and I can mount them on any machine over afp.

I have been thinking about adding a 3rd machine with a 6 port card. Is it possible to link two ports and get more bandwidth? Trying to figure out if I could do uncompressed 3d hd over ten gig. This would be to only one user.

  • GPU-Xpander Desktop 4 is the one I got. For now I’m gonna stuff it with two fx4800 cards and two red rocket cards. That should get me 2k stereo playback

  • I have seen these work with systems other than the resolve. But none with resolve. I just ordered a cubix 4 slot expander. Would that not work? It hAs 4 double wide slots

What projector are you looking at getting? I have been looking at the Samsung Joe Kane stuff. Nice for rec709. I dont think you can find a p3 projector in the same price range.

When you say “now permits extraction of long reel numbers from Autodesk EDL’s ” Are you referring to the way smoke cuts a cmx lists tape name to 7 digits for a B reel.

Where is smoke getting the longer than 8 digit tape name from? A comment field?

    Thanks in Advance.

How could you use resolve on a smoke on mac. Smoke uses Kona cards and one gpu. Resolve wont work with kona, and smoke won’t boot with two gpu’s in it.
