Looks like it might just fit 3 gtx cards + and an extra 8x slot

January 1, 2011 at 9:44 amHey Nick,
Thanks for the comment I am also considering the cubix.
Just checking everything out before i pull the trigger.
May I ask what cubix and options you ordered ?Did you get this unit with these ugrades?
GPU-Xpander Desktop 2 base..
SUBSTITUTE SINGLE-WIDTH, 4-SLOT PCIE x16 BACKPLANE FROM BASE UNIT 2-SLOT PCIE DOUBLE-WIDE, + $169.00
SUBSTITUTE PCI EXPRESS x16 DATA CABLE AND ADAPTER (40Gbps data transfer maximum, removes x8 data cable and adapter from base config), + $399.00
Total i get per the web site is 2262.00 before tax and cards ?Forgive me if Im wrong. I have been looking the cubix web site and It looks like it will only take two double wide cards.

January 1, 2011 at 10:06 amLooks like I didn’t read far enough down..
The GPU-Xpander Desktop 4 might be the one.. Doesn’t look like it needs any upgrades.
2799 before tax and cards..Searching for the cards and boards. My neighbor / engineer / mad scientist wants to do a little 2011 DIY:)

January 1, 2011 at 1:21 pmGPU-Xpander Desktop 4 is the one I got. For now I’m gonna stuff it with two fx4800 cards and two red rocket cards. That should get me 2k stereo playback

January 10, 2011 at 10:10 pmHello all,
It works !
I just tested the cyclon pci expander and it works perfect.
I installed 2 GPU (4800 and GTX 285) + my red rocket. With 2 GPU it twice faster i resolve. I’m going to put one more card in the cyclone to get the best of it !
Config : Mac Pro 2010, 8×2,4Ghz, 16Go Ram, FX4800,GT120, Decklink 3D+, RED Rocket, system on Crucial SSD 250, 5x2to Seagate XT Raid0 drive, DaVinci Resolve 7.02

January 10, 2011 at 10:34 pmYes it should,
you can put 3 ‘2slots’ GPU cards at 16x and one more 8x card or three 1 slot GPU card and two 8x 1 slot card.
I don’t know if there are pci expender that can do better than 3 16x cards ?
Next step would be to put 2 cyclones together to put 5 cards !!!
Config : Mac Pro 2010, 8×2,4Ghz, 16Go Ram, FX4800,GT120, Decklink 3D+, RED Rocket, system on Crucial SSD 250, 5x2to Seagate XT Raid0 drive, DaVinci Resolve 7.02

January 10, 2011 at 10:48 pmI believe the cubix desktop 4 will take 4 double wide at about the same price point. Not sure who has tested this config or if adding 3 gpu cards will help.
