GSG also has a “House” text tutorial that’s more simplistic than making your HDR. I would wholeheartedly recommend checking out some better examples of compositing (Fringe titles, etc.) before starting your project. May as well be inspired by the best if you’re going to use someone’s work as an example (no criticism intended here whatsoever, I love the comosited text effect, but it’s been done so much better elsewhere, follow those examples!).

  • Cool solution, I’m gonna give that a shot. THANKS!

  • Well, looks like it’s as easy as making an Atom Array, which I’d never heard of!

  • Additionally, I was able to enable the Tesla C1060 and add that to the CUDA Supported Cards list, then use that to enable the Mercury Playback Engine. It works great, I layered 3 .MOV DSLR video clips at different opacity with RGB curves on all 3 cranked to weird colors and could playback in real time.

Again, not sure how many people this applies to, but hopefully it will help someone.

Yeah, I turned off volumetric, but I am planning to leave AO and GI on. I’m using a Core I7 975 extreme and a good geforce graphics card that benchmarks really high in cinebench, so it’s not my machine. What settings do you recommend in GI and AO? Nick Campbell’s renders are fast with them both on and what I thought were comparable setting, I’m sure his Mac’s better than my PC but not toooo substantially I wouldn’t think. Where else can I sacrifice?

  • That’s weird. Well, I have mograph text and it seems like it only works if I put it inside a cloner object with 1 instance and then drop it with mograph dynamics onto the grass, which doesn’t give me hardly any control then. I need to know how to be able to just place the text wherever and have it affect the grass. It does seem to work for a general sphere though. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, I pasted the lights, GI, and Visible spheres into a new project, made new sweep nurbs, cut those out with the material already on it, and pasted them back – this worked, but I’d still love to understand why it wasn’t working just in the regular project???

I should mention that I already know how to do a text + extrude nurbs, etc. I just need a pointer on how people go about setting it up from there to look a little more realistic (and less grey!).

Wow, that was easy. Except that the text was backwards! I set a -x for the height, start growth to 100%, and animated the end growth from 0% to 100% to get the text to look normal then. Seems like I’m missing a step that’s really easy. Maybe I’ll figure it out. But thanks so much for explaining the process to me, I’m glad to be moving along. Thanks!!!

January 14, 2009 at 7:46 pm in reply to: Shooting a sneeze – Help!

Got it with an HD Sony at 30p and pulled all the lights and subject up further from the background to blow it out and darken it. 2 lights, one on the subject eye level pointed away from the curtain and another directly under the sneeze shooting up laying flat on the ground. Worked perfectly with the water – the sneezes are obviously wet and exagerrated, but it’s exactly like the picture. Lighting looks a little avant-garde, but that’s fine with me. I’ll post a link if I get it uploaded somewhere. Thanks for the help!
