    I really doubt Apple’s going to 100% ditch the Pro consumers, and honestly I doubt they are even moving in a more consumer friendly direction. They’ve got iMovie for that, I can envision this as a total rewrite with 64-bit multicore support and a brand new UI (that we’ll hate for a while, but then love). I also love the idea of interfacing my iPad even deeper with FCP. At the moment I run AirDisplay and keep my Audio Mixer and Video Scope on the iPad, and have my frame viewer on monitor 2, and monitor 1 looks pretty close to standard.

    Render full is your issue. If it plays back fine without render then you can just go File>Export>Quicktime Movie. You can take this file straight into iMovie (which will take forever) or you can do it proper and create an m2v and ac3 file to bring into DVDSPro.

    Compressor is the best solution for this problem, however it can be a bit complex at times, especially switching from 16×9 to 4×3. There is a droplet that would work for you but I’m on my iPad right now and can’t check it out. If you just want the quick and dirty solution then try this

    -In FCP switch your Easy Setup to NTSC DV or whichever SD codec you want.
    -Create a new sequence
    -Put your footage onto that timeline
    -Say no when it wants to adjust your timeline to match the footage
    -Adjust the distort and size parameters to what you want (double click the clip, third tab in the viewer)
    -File->Export->Quicktime Movie
    -Make sure that “Self Contained Movie” is selected

    This is the quickest and dirtiest solution.

    I had to use a V1U for work quite a bit, and my best recommendation would be to use the default “HDV 1080i60” easy setup. Always make sure that you have the V1U on play mode and that your FireWire cable is securely connected (the 4-pin connectors have a tendency of popping out). When you select the Easy Setup FCP should let you know if the camera is recognized. It’s also important to ensure that your camera is on HDV mode, this is possible just by playing a brief clip off an HDV tape in the camera.

    Vimeo also works very well with the built in “YouTube Sharing” droplet. I recommend adjusting the video settings for higher quality.
