Thanks. I won’t be around the cameras until next wed, and I am not sure who is in the camera dept to ask. They are still crewing for this job. I love shooting HD, but I hate VTR’ing HD. THere are so many cameras and they all have different outputs.

Cool, to make sure I understand and can pass it along to the PM, I will need a converter to convert from 10 bit to 8 bit. The VTR in is DV, and I will have to look in the manual to see if I can set bit rate, but I don’t think rigs are set up for that.

I found a Mocha tutorial from Ross Shane. Once stabilized in AE, What would be the best way in increase with image size to loose the black bars?

I looked for some tutorials but couldn’t find any on stabilization. Have you used it for stabilization? If so, does it all you to scale your footage up to cut off the black bars after the render? If it does are the algorithms good?

I have to jump in here. What kind of spots do you want to do? Do you want to do small market TV and AV stuff, or do you want to compete ona national level? I started on an m-audio 10×10 with an EV RE20 and a blue tube pre amp. I also read VO in a closet full of clothes. My audio did have some hiss due to the RE20.

I knew that if was going to compete for Ford, T Moble, Career builder etc, I had to had the sound a recording studio could produce. I bought a Neumann TLM103 and build a really nice sound enclosure. The 103 is very sensitive. I also got an mbox and use pro tools. All in all I had about 6-7K invested to start.

Decided on what level you want to compete, then talk to a sound engineer and they can tell you what you need. If you are going to read on 200 mics or lavalier camera mics, you will never get and large market or high paying jobs. The client wont’ accept it.

    Thanks Guys,

This helps. I am re-reading the Barry Green Book that came with the HVX to get a better handle on my camera. Funny, I have had it for three years and haven’t shot a whole lot of HD…..This recession really tapped me out. I am really video assist on union jobs, so I wanted to learn how to shoot for indy stuff. Anyway, thanks for the website info. I am finding that I am getting forced into editing and I am starting to get asked to edit different formats than the DVCproHD. I know there is 600 combinations of formats, but I need to get a handle on the ones that are the most common. I did the lynda tutorials on compressor, since I don’t have a video card, and have learned a bit, but compressor tutorial seem to a little generic. That said, it can’t cover everything, just give enough of examples on how to get out what you what after you put it in.

Plus I am starting to do some grip work with local production companies, and they are asking me to start editing. I need to get my game on a little faster than I wanted to.

    Cheers.

I agree on the legality, as much as I wished Apple would allow you to run two machines. The only thing I ever use in tandem is compressor. Sometimes I am under the gun and have to batch jobs on two machines. I just disable the airport until I am finished. I think Apple should at least allow the use of compressor on multiple machines. It just makes out job easier when we are under the gun.

    My two cents.

    Funny,

I downloaded that latest software update for SN that was back in NOV and re installed it. Now I can submit, but when I look at the batch monitor, it just sits there and does nothing. It does say there is a file in the queue, but there is no activity after that.
