This may work. But, of course, if there is some file system limitation of accomodating over 65536 frames in a folder, then you’ll hit that limit again.

If that limit was due to FCP, not the file system, then you’re fine.

The ideal thing would be to convert both to ProRes and continue. You can, of course mix DVCProHD and ProRes in the same timeline, but eventually either will need to be rendered to the timeline’s settings at the time of export or playout.

I think a simpler way, if you can’t go back and re export, would be to use iDVD. Its drag and drop. Just place your MP4 in iDVD, it will encode, make a menu, a button, everything.

Run iDVD, select 4:3 or 16:9, I think you should select 16:9 as your movie is 2048×1152.
Then name the DVD something other than ‘My Great DVD’, which is the default name.
Then decide where to save it.
Select a good looking theme.

In the Project menu, go to Project info and select NTSC or PAL as desired. Set encoding preference.

Then drag your mp4 into the main window. iDVD will make a button.

You can preview the DVD by hitting the Play button at the bottom.

When you’re satisfied, press the burn button, pop in a blank DVD and you’re done – after the DVD finishes burning.

Couldn’t be simpler.

Seems like a filesystem number of files issue of some sort. 65536 is 2^16 so maybe that’s the max number of files in a folder that the filesystem can handle or FCP can address.

I think you can break the sequence into sub sequences. Films are normally mastered or rendered out as reels of under 2000 feet, which corresponds to 32000 frames. And most DCP creation software can join reels.

You can do a small trial with multiple sequences of, say, 500 frames and check if easyDCP can join them into one DCP.

There’s another tool to reconnect files to FCP. Its called FCPReconnect. Could it be that if Resolve for Mac renders out as Quicktime with source timecode, FCP reconnect can take an FCP XML or EDL and reconnect back to these rendered files?

Bob,
We discussed this at last NAB. It\’s taken nearly a year but we have it now. What\’s exciting is that even smaller 4 and 5 drive RAIDs will eventually be able to possibly do uncompressed HD, copy files faster, and deliver more layers with ProRes, even ProRes4444.
The drive bottleneck seems to be clearing.
