I run FCP 7 on my Resolve system which has two graphics cards. And I know people who run FCP on Resolve systems with 3 Graphics cards too. So, multiple graphic cards don;t seem to bother FCP 7.

I don’t think Apple has done anything overt to ensure that FCP 7 cannot be installed or run on newer systems. I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro which shipped with Mavericks. And I could install FCP on it. (Just had to share a DVD drive off my MacPro to run the install DVDs). And now that system runs FCP 7 just fine. Maybe its all the furore over FCP X which made them take the step of not disabling FCP 7 on newer systems.

I use FCP X for some tasks and FCP 7 for others. Both run fine on my systems though not simultaneously. So, just because you get a new cyl-MacPro doesn’t mean you have to give up FCP 7 and/or use FCP X.

I think FCP 7 will run just fine on the new MacPro. Not too sure about other apps like Soundtrack Pro, Cinema Tools, DVDSP etc.

I didn’t get the dead end part with Thunderbolt. Or the 62.5% drop in efficiency with pass-through. What’s that exactly?

And how does array expansion work with SAS ? How’s it different in Thunderbolt?

Were these systems PC or Mac?
And what year was it when you tried out Avid in a shared environment?

Avid project sharing on Mac using Unity has been reasonably painless since 2010.

In general, Apple machines can boot off the OS that the machine shipped with and later, but seldom with an OS before that.
So, my one year old MB Air will boot Mavericks or Mountain Lion, but not Lion or Snow Leopard. Or a two year old MacBook Pro I have doesn’t boot Tiger/Leopard but boots any OS after Snow Leopard.

In India the financial year runs Apr 01 to Mar 31 so we can buy the MacPro in Jan even Feb and still claim depreciation.
In India, Apple does not sell or provide any custom configs. These have to be imported.
Apple had no return policy in India. Sales are final.

Most Macs reach India anywhere between 1-4 weeks after they are launched in the US. So for us, the MacPro is looking like Feb 2014 already.

Did this get resolved?

If not, then here’s a suggestion.

Quicktime movies, when altered in any way that changes the header, could get corrupted and unusable if the QT file resides on a non MacOSX file system, and/or the QT file is on a network device which is using an non AFP protocol (NFS/SMB etc)

I’m out of luck.

I made a support ticket. And got a reply that I’m out of support so I can’t get a response. So my only hope is this forum. Or go out and buy support just to get help for something that seems broken.
Or live with a broken progress bar.

But I’ll test this out with different MacOSes and if I find a fix, I’ll post it here.

I’ve made a ticket just today.

Also, to be sure, I installed BRU 3.0.2 same build as mine in a MacPro 8-core running 10.6.8. And there the progress bar works. But with both my systems OSX 10.7.5 and OSX 10.8.4 its stuck.

I’ll await the 3.1 build. Thanks.

I too had some occasional success with LTFS on a new LTO-6 on a friend’s system. But the ‘peace of mind’ verify that BRU gives you is of value as our use for LTO is as a tertiary backup of original camera rushes. If there’s something like that with LTFS I’d go there.
