SAS or Thunderbolt
I have a dilemma with having to provide about 40-60 TB storage for a TV show edit (Apple ProRes ‘SQ’ mostly) to iMac systems.
I’m easily getting Areca 4036 MI boxes which have a Areca 1223 card bundled.
And I have a couple of Sonnet Echo TBolt-PCIe boxes lying around so I can put the 1223 in it and run the Areca as a TBolt-SAS-Areca config. But the 4036 MI is a ‘dead-end’ SAS box so to be able to connect 2 of them I’ll need to use two Areca 1223 cards in two daisy chained Sonnets.
Or shall I just get the 8040 which have SAS pass-through.
Or better still the 8050 Tbolt boxes?Which will be the better performing of these three in this setup.
Price is not a concern. Just the wait. 4036 immediate vs 8040/8050 3-4 weeks.
