The new Resolve 12.5 and 12.5.1 has some really good features for editing, and compositing. It’s getting closer and closer to ‘FCP 8’ or maybe ‘FCP 9’. I tried Premiere Pro and found it to be less than a good FCP 7 replacement.

So, I’m now using FCP 7 where it is still useful, FCP X for most of the editing I do, and in the past few months, Resolve as a round-trip target for my FCP X projects for Colour Correction and some compositing. But if you’re so ‘attached’ to FCP 7, I think you may find Resolve 12.5.1 to be a worthy successor.

What did you end up going with?

I’ve tested LTFS implementations and found them to be troublesome, particularly with large number of files – DPX, ArriRaw, OpenEXR sequences. Some LTFS implementations are database driven so if you lose the database, then you lose the ability of being able to search for files/folders across a large number of tapes. For restoring several years later.

I’ve tried the DVR clone tool in various versions up until the latest 12.5. For what I need, it simply doesn’t work.
I’m trying to clone Arri Alexa Codex data packs to a hard disk. Gives an error as soon as it starts. I think its a permission thing but has never got correct. As far as I remember it also doesn’t work with Redmags.

It does work with SD cards and CF cards, however.

Dibyendu the post you linked to is from 2008. EIGHT years ago.

A helluva lot has changed since then. Why, some hugely dramatic changes came to the NLE universe from just 2011-12.
Avid ISIS (now Nexis), EditShare, and others have made many changes in their systems and pricing.

So, while I’m not doubting that vStor from Apace may be a capable shared storage system for multiple editing systems, you’re going to have to show us some more recent case studies.

Also, when you say “Apace is the only triple certified Adobe Partner” you need to substantiate that. I visited the Adobe partner program web site an tried searching for vStor or Apace and could find neither.

We are always on the lookout for newer better systems than what we work with at the present.

Just as many rumour sites ‘read the tea leaves’ on dwindling stocks or big discount on a particular item to predict an impending update, when I start seeing discounts on tutorials on a particular software, I think an update is around the corner. Maybe some tutorial makers are given an ‘inside track’ on features in the update a bit before time so they can get their updates ready on launch day. So they ‘know’ and then begin discounting their inventory. This is just conjecture, of course.

At Ripple Training, I saw discounts on Resolve 11 Tutorials just before 12 was announced. And, their FCP 10.2 tutorials were ready so soon after the launch of FCP 10.2 that it looked like they had it in advance. And, if I remember right 10.1 tutorials are discounted weeks before 10.2 was available.

Yes the G-Speed XL 80 TB looks like an interesting option. It would be 60 TB as RAID6.

BTW, the Netstor NA333 16-bay RAID enclosure can take up to 6 TB drives according to a vendor I contacted. So that would make it 96TB raw or 84 TB as RAID6.
