Extremely fast as in over 500 MB/sec would have to be a 6 or 8 bay RAID. Shared by two at the same speed would have to be 8 or 12 bay RAID. Connected via Thunderbolt 2 or 3.

Only QNAP makes a box shareable over Thunderbolt, and with additional GigE ports to share with others.

LTO is preferable.

This is the hardest part.
If you can’t afford the QNAP then use two 4-bay Thunderbolt RAIDs connected to each of the machines. You should get about 300 MB/sec to each system.
And connect them to each other over Thunderbolt so they can use each other’s storage by mounting them over Thunderbolt network. That should get about 150 MB/sec to the other’s storage.
Then get a GigE switch and connect both these to it, and the others to the switch. These other systems can mount either of the storages for slower access like about 80 MB/sec
