Shane, I’ve heard this said a bit, but what does AJA offer via that collaboration, that BlackMagic doesn’t?
I have to decide on this choice in the coming months, and sometimes its hard to differentiate between genuine information and sales pitching.

First thing you do (like I do) is ask whoever gave the DVD to you, can they access the original video master? DVD is not the ideal way to supply material for editing.
If the answer is ‘No’ ask for proof that they are allowed to use the footage off the DVD.

I feel all editors owe it to themselves to make some investigation into the footage supplied to them, for creative, technical and legal reasons.

Have you got a link?
Following on from your list of settings in Compressor, I’m curious about your setting for things like the ‘Anti-alias’ & ‘Details level’ settings.
I’ve made a setting similar to that which you described, and while it delivers great results, it does take a long time; as much as 105x realtime.
I have Anti-alias set at 5 & Details set at 10.
Generally, Compressor seems very slow when converted interlace to progressive, no matter the settings. (So even a poor result takes a long time to achieve!)

Love to know your thoughts (and if they’re detailed already, yes, just post a link.)

it MAY be accessing an old render file – try trashing those and re-rendering.

You can get more ‘lift’ within Soundtrack Pro.
You can also ‘normalize’ the audio.

I don’t know how well you know the app but it is almost certainly your answer. Interacts with FCP.
