I really appreciate the advice, Ryan! Your recommendation of the C70 s a big help. It’s an attractive option for sure, for all the good reasons you mentioned. Seems like it would be an easy migration from the 5D too. I work for a big nonprofit that may balk at the pricetag, as I didn’t initially realize both these cameras cost upwards of $6 K, in case you, Eric, or others know of any less expensive options than the C70 or C200? No problem if there aren’t good ones. Just trying to do my due diligence. But they actually have me on a high priority project right now I know they want to look good, and I’ve been unhappy with the way my mark IV 1080 footage has been looking. So maybe they’ll agree and accept it as a good investment, and cheaper than hiring a freelancer with better tools.

    Thanks again, Neil

November 14, 2021 at 6:16 pm in reply to: Older PPro projects crashing, finding culprit

Thanks a lot for your response, Robert. In terms of how old, the two main projects, where I’ve been having this issue, aren’t super old at all, one first created in March 2021 and the other April 2021. That’s great to know the updates are a constant issue. Like I said, I’d had this theory my recent issues might have been related to me thoughtlessly trashing an old Audition and maybe one other suite app not too long ago, so maybe PPro got confused by that somehow. But this could also be related to an update to PPro22 perhaps, since when I just tried to open one of these projects with PPro21 instead, it didn’t crash for the first time in recent memory. Anyway, thanks again, and just let me know if that additional info on the affected projects’ ages helps.

Just an update here. I just tried to open one of these oft-crashing projects with PPro 21, not 22, and it didn’t crash when I did. So maybe that will be my workaround for the moment. I’m definitely still grateful for any perspective on this issue, which certainly may recur and just to avoid such problems.

  • Thanks for the advice, Steve! I know you haven’t done this, but between the FB or Youtube Live options you mention, I’d be curious if you or others have thoughts on whether one is preferable? This person actually approached our social media director first on this, who sent her to me (the video producer), which I question the more I learn here. And for anyone who has done this, she mentioned that I could get a Youtube ‘token’ to give to her. Also not sure how that process works, so grateful for any tips if anyone knows anything.

Thank you Mark as always! That ss thing is interesting. Do you mean you just type ss before a Youtbe link, for example? And yeah, I totally agree about the free apps one finds through google seeming super fishy and phishy, with all these malware-y pop-ups etc. That sketchiness is why I’m still considering Wondershare. I don’t want to pay either, for something that many seem to accomplish for free, but for me Wondershare is the only way I’ve had that avoided these other hassles. Just let me know if you or others have any other thoughts.

  • That is a great suggestion, thank you Mark! I hope all is well!

May 19, 2020 at 7:59 pm in reply to: How to remove video noise from black areas?

Thank you very much Joe, Jerry and Eric! Really appreciate all the suggestions, including the points about masking and Neat Video. I also have a colleague who suggested Davinci Resolve, because we may have a license somewhere. Does anyone happen to know how it would fare against Neat Video for something like this? I expect Neat Video is a lot cheaper, but if we already have a Resolve license.
I tried to apply the good masking suggestion, crushing the heck out of the blacks all around him, and have a new draft below. Would welcome any comments, especially on whether you think Neat Video or possibly Resolve would still offer a big improvement over this draft.

  • Hi again Mark! I appreciate this other resource you suggested very much. I actually discovered an imperfect but workable solution within Youtube. Apparently its auto-captioning option has trouble when there’s a long period at the beginning of a video with no spoken words, and just silence or music. And I had 15 seconds or so of just music when I originally uploaded. So to get around that issue, I uploaded a new version, with that dialogue-free prelude cut out just to capture the subtitles. Then Youtube recognized the new version’s speech quickly, and generated an auto-captioned version. However, this workaround is time consuming, requiring one to then download that file and bring it into the original uploaded version, with the music/titles prelude included. But that’s the only fix I could come up with, within Youtube anyway. Let me know if you or others have found other solutions, though. And I’ll check out this other resource, thanks again Mark!
    I hope you’re well.
    Neil
