Jost got one a couple months a go to replace my mac pro. Other than the fact I’m still waiting for a good i/o thunderbolt device, to replace my declink extreme 2, I’m loving this machine. FCP 7 and MC reworking better than ever under 10.7.2 and it definitely feels way faster than the old box and 8 core mac pro i use at work.
Im pretty sure tho it caps out at 16gb ram.

Finally got a chance to try out the patch.. Seems solid so far. Haven’t run into the Underrun bug once, my workspaces are being remembered and window layout is staying in tact. Mind you 6.0 was unusable for me cause of the constant under run bug. Im finally getting to see what a 64 bit MC is like, and its fast and snappy, rendering is quick. Even Avid FX is working a lot snappier than I’ve ever seen it. I dig the subtle differences in the interface, and it seems like Avid is heading in the right direction with this one.

ill tell you, i was one of those people who balked at FCp x, and YES, the common discussion around LA at least is that most editors wont even touch it with a ten foot pole. In fact that attitude is even being adopted by students and newbies, just cause they know the more experienced are balking at it.
That said, i installed the demo last night of 10.0.3 after dabbling with the initial release and it has come a long way.. a very long way. Mainly in the feel of it, the responsiveness, etc..
i still wont be using it to cut anything anytime soon but i dont doubt in the next couple years that it becomes everything we wanted it to be and then some. When it does come to fruition, it will just be another tool in the box.

can you not use the scopes and all that one second display if you choose to move the viewer over there ? ive been putting the events on the second display, i like my canvas and timeline on the same display.
I think this release is definitely a step in the right direction but im still not really compelled to try and edit something in here. The 3 point editing into anything other than a primary track is along way off and i dont like how you have to enlarge or change the clip representation to see the audio thats attached etc and that the most minimal view w/o waveforms can be resized.
Hopefully 10.0.4 brings a viewer, and the option of tracks.

the other main thing is the connected clips and slip slide behavior.. if that became override able so the connected clip doesn’t go along for the ride when slide editing, and a dedicated viewer, id probably give it a more serious look. hopefully in 10.4 ;0

actually looks decent with the multiclip editor, looks easy to add clips at a ;later time etc.. fix rogue sync etc..
my main thing is with the angle veiwer, how come they didnt just give us the viewer window back full time. Still one ofthe main things keeping me from likeing X is the lack of a dedicated viewer window.

IMO, the addition of Logics Effects are cool, but having tracks with the ease of logics automation plus the mixer is what makes mixing in Logic great over FCP Legacy. Also, while Logics effects re great, they dont hold a candle to Waves, so until you can open AU’s and use the plgins ofyour choice then im not impressed. I need Waves, and Sonalksis’ offering, the eq’s and compressors ares so m uch better.
