nope, I barely use X, but no issues on the surface, i use FCP 7 every other day with no problems at all.

just want ot say despite the whitesheet. Im running X and FCP 7 on the same drive and it works fine. Just made a new folder called Final Cut X and installed it to there and its all working fine.

i also think learning how to properly cut in Avid with the keyboard will make you approach other NLE’s in the same manner, therefore being more efficient. Nothing makes me cringe more than seeing someone mouseing, and dragging, and dropping within an NLE.

9.5.1 is actually the best one yet for me with the extreme. Trim mode and CC in Avid are still slow-ish and caps lock sometimes messes stuff up, but otherwise way better than the prev drivers.
Just tried a png with alpha matte in FCP 7 and it worked as normal. Don’t have CS 6 yet to try that one.

My preception has changed – A little bit in that anyone willing to do deal with the shortcoming of the magnetic timeline, the audio issues, bloat, etc can do “pro” level work on it. But why would anyone want to deal with that when theres a bunch of other NLE’s doing the job the right way. The multicam is rad, but thats about it. Everything else just seems unnecessary and convoluted.
That said, I still use FCP 7 alongside Media Composer every single day, and i still love it. Sure i cant wack a h264 file in there and expect to be cutting it native but i dont mind transcoding as its just part of the process now. Other than that FCP 7 and MC work amazing for me. There rock solid, and i can forget about bug this and bloat that, and what features may or may not come, and actually just edit.

so its basically the same idea as using filler in avid to make transitions? the only stock transitions i ever used in FCP were the standard dissolve, dip to black, and the cross zoom.

its been replaced with tab’d bins,, some love the new way, some hate it. I never really used superbins cause ive never had to save space, but i do like the new tabbed method, especially when relinking and doing onlines.

thanks guys. Havent tried the 6 minute file yet, but all the others got down to under 20mb using compressors h264 sharing preset. thanks for the help!
