I cant imagine its any faster with a mouse and it takesyou longer to click and drag to be exact. Having admitted your not familiar with Dynamic trimming your not really in a position to.comapre the two. Its almost night and day..

I’m not an Avid editor, really. My experience with it is more with workflow than creative editing. If I understand what you’re describing, you’re saying there’s a command that lets you move an edit point to the playhead location without selecting which edit point to move? And it just… what, moves the closest one? I guess that’s handy. But it doesn’t sound like the Premiere feature in question, and I’m not sure why it wouldn’t in principle work, with a bit of tweaking, on a magnetic timeline.
It’s also worth noting you don’t have to click anything to select one side or the other of an edit point in FCP X. Park the playhead on the edit point, and hit [ or ]. Once one or the other is selected, you can switch between them with these keys without returning the playhead to the edit point.”
Trimming in X is one of its worst features, not like it was any good really in FCP 7 but thats one area they didnt improve on at all with X and i believe theyve backed themselves into a corner with the trackless timeline. I havent gotten a chance to get into PPRO 6 yet but if they copied Avids trim mode than all the better because it really is an elegant solution and you cant really argue its value. You can get in, make complicated trims across different tracks, slip, slide, and extend on stacks of video/audio and never have to touch the mouse.

and further more if i have to start from scratch (only 10 minutes not a big deal) how do i reset all mixer levels and also delete all eq fx from the audio tracks (14 tracks) at once?

could also be your monitor doesnt support the resolution or frame rate your trying to playback. For example, if your project is 24p, your NEC might not be able to play back at that reso.

“hahah no shit right? Thats just the Computer in my office, which ive since upped to lion and upgraded the video card on. MC 6.5.2 is still trucking pretty good on that machine. I mainly use it as Net machine at this point
All the bays run HP PC’s with MC 5 at the moment, and weve been beggin for a upgrade there too.

Lion is the earlist supported. FWIW i did run it on an old 2.1 macpro with snow leapoard on it and it seemed fine. Didnt really get too deep on that config, but didnt run into any problems either.

No argument there Bill.I was mainly just pointing out that the approach is very much the same while in any NLE. X is great at organizing on the front end. Its on the timeline where it falls apart for me a little bit. What can i say, i like tracks.

In FCP 7, i did all my work in the bins too, before starting to cut something. Doesnt everyone? I dont know many people who just whack a ton of clips in a timeline and figure out in&outs/ markers/ etc later. Who works that way? Sure things get trimmed, chopped and screwed as you go but thats editng, no matter the app.
Pretty much standard practice there Bill, no matter the app. If you used to work that way in 7, maybe thats why you think X is such a revolution.

in 6.5 you can disable the Hardware from within the app. But no, you cant use the BM box and monitor audio independently at the same time.

As is all of our areas of work. If you judged NLE’s by the ones that people and Companies I know use, then Avid doesn’t exist.

“Just outa curiosity, where do you live? Obviuosly in LA, Avid is a huge player with a huge install base. Ive seen PPRo start to enter its way in the equation, but only two freelancers with there own bays i know use FCP X in LA at the moment.
