between magnetic timelines and creative cloud activation nightmares, im glad i switched back to Avid full time after the EOL of FCP7..never had an issue with activation, the software works and MC7 looks really promising. That said, i wouldnt put it past avid to adopt some sort of cloud thingy too, but for now all is safe in Media Composer land and my work hasnt skipped a beat.

Its not drive related. I have the same issue on only one computer, out of 100’s of other ive worked on. Tried with many different drives. It used to work as normal, and then oneday BAM, beachball until the copying is done.
Also have never found a an answer.

Balancing things out a bit. Theres things i like, theres things i hate. Theres nothing i love, and nothing i see compelling enough to jump in full time especially with other very capable options on the market. The general consensus where i live (LA), is thats it DOA. Call that just plain ignorance or what you will, but it hasnt broke into any markets im seeing, especially broadcast.

i am surprised no one mentioned trimming yet.
Until it has Avid or even CS6/Next style trim tools, its never going to be a serious contender for me.

ive been learning all the in an outs in my free time. Definately up to snuff for most work out there, but what i can say, i still dont like it. At least when theres other options out there. The timeline is not my cup of tea and the only thing i can see the magnetic timeline usefull for is maybe reaaranging the order of large chunks of a piece, like full scenes in a short or something. Other than theres is promise there, ill continue to dabble in my free time just in case a gig ever comes about , but as long as Media Composer and Adobe remain active , i dont see the point.

Id skip FCP all together as mentioned above. You could also DL the media composer demo which will give you full featureset for 30 days.

forgot to add holding “ALT” during a trim will make it an overwrite vs insert trim as well.

yea there already mapped. Shift A,S,D,F respectivly along with P,[,] with shuttle through the different smart tools and how the effect the clip ie; one-sided/double-roller.

normal transcode happen in the background too. You can see her do it in the demo. You edit, during, and then relink to the .new clips once they finish.
also just saw the flex control work on transcoded media as well as AMA, and can be ignored or applied at will to transcodes as well.
