Figure this goes more to just being able to actually open your edit bar the rights and wrongs of the cloud rental so maybe Ok to post here?

read this from the PPro forum and be somewhat very, very afraid:

    choice quote:

So I tried to update my credit card info on Adobe’s site. However, I got an error that said, “Something went wrong on our end, please try again later.” But it also said that my account was being transitioned to a “free account through June {I don’t recall the exact date, but it was about a month away}.” I’m not sure what that meant but I assumed this was some kind of grace period to get my account up to date. This was on Wednesday evening.

On Thursday morning (yesterday) I had forgot to try to update the credit card info before I jumped into the project. And that’s when I got the error. I also learned that someone else in my studio had the exact same problem with another project.

but it gets way, way, way better: next response –

    https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/3/941301

Exactly the same situation here and I have posted about it. I get this “sequence cannot be opened error” any time I go to an authorised computer that has not been used for editing for a couple of weeks( two weeks in the studio and I don’t use the laptop – 3 weeks away and I don’t use the Studio Mac Pro.) And it happened when my CC was cancelled as a fraud precaution. There is no correct message and absolutely no leeway given.

this is just flatout a nightmare?
Not only are adobe holding the software hostage, they are also so completely incompetent that they are now randomly shooting it in the head without notice. your editing software. At some really interesting unforeseen moment.

Its a joke. This is just a bad bad bad joke.

in other news file sync just fell over.

Adobe want to force around, I don’t know – a half a million or more (?) working editing professionals into this living hell over the next 24 months.

I swear to god – does any editor feel good about this at this stage? reading the above?
Forget the cloud – this isn’t about any cloud. This is just turning into a nightmarish mess.

Isn’t this starting to sound like crazy town?
and us a mere two weeks away from the June 17th grand opening of, you know, Jurassic Activation Park?

No expense spared people. Not in support, activation, checking your credit card – this is all going to be great if we all agree to go rental with adobe.
    Forever.

maybe lets everyone take a breath? – and not touch this with a living bargepole for six months.
It could really serve to improve the situation on multiple levels.

Don’t you mean “a mere two fortnights?” Or did somebody shave off the last third of May and the front porch of June and not tell me?

Over the last few years I’ve done everything in my power to avoid Adobe, Microsoft, and Google (I’m stuck with Apple).

Speaking of jokes. 6 months ago I began using Adobe Connect to teach online classes. It works. Mostly. The sales lady misled me about exactly when Adobe would upgrade the software to HD quality, she said “very soon”. Adobe did a major upgrade a few weeks ago which seemed to break more things than fix at my end, and we’re still at 640×480 and 20fps. Not quite HD yet and I guess “very soon” to Adobe is sometime around a year (which is what the support fellow told me).

Adobe Connect support is ridiculous. I opened a ticket for problems after the upgrade and asked that my complaints be passed up the food chain. My new friend in India said someone would get right back to me. It’s been a few weeks now. Not worth another phone call, but annoying. If Adobe Connect is any indication of current Adobe quality and support, good luck with Creative Cloud.

Mostly I’m responding because I saw my name in the subject line and it got my attention. But I tell you, if I didn’t have to make my living using software and services by the 4 above mentioned corporations, I wouldn’t. (Sure gotta love these small software and plugin companies though that respond personally and get upgrades and fixes out within days after you email them. Ah, good times.)

between magnetic timelines and creative cloud activation nightmares, im glad i switched back to Avid full time after the EOL of FCP7..never had an issue with activation, the software works and MC7 looks really promising. That said, i wouldnt put it past avid to adopt some sort of cloud thingy too, but for now all is safe in Media Composer land and my work hasnt skipped a beat.

Those 2 things are not the same. One you just don’t like, the other prevents you from opening your project. 🙂

Until May 24th at least which is when Avid explains to NASDAQ what their plan to remain listed is (including a schedule for delivering a report that calls off the class action law suits).

touche, either way 2 things i dont have to deal with. I’d use FCPX if they brought back some tracks. Yes still beating that horse. lol

Man, don’t you think you blow it all a bit out of proportion?
