April 14, 2016 at 7:00 pm in reply to: Michael Cioni on X and modern workflows for NAB 2016[Andrew Kimery] “*Avid might be incapable of it because of how bins in Avid function differently than bins/folders in other NLEs.”
There are now searchable bins in Avid, as well as the timeline and project window.
If you amend your clips with a keyword at the end – it functions similiar to FCPX in that it will filter out unwanted media.
Def not the same or as elegant as FCPX but doable and a workable solution.

Looks like a solid update for Ppro users.

[Michael Gissing] “That said a 4k monitors are now relatively cheap and will last a lot longer than an HD. Personally I am happy with my LG 85″ 4k (not the OLED). The viewing distance is small enough and the screen big enough to appreciate the extra resolution. Also the LG has a lot of ability to turn all the pesky image processing off and get a relatively unprocessed image. It also has advanced settings where gamma can be manipulated.”
Any tips for getting a better image out of the LG? I just picked up the 60″ for clients – obviously I already turned off the true motion stuff.

April 11, 2016 at 5:14 pm in reply to: Do AJA devices (t-tap) have playback delay with FCP X?Not using FCP X all that much but haven’t got any crashes with my ultrastudio express thunderbolt when I do
I use BM driver 10.5.4 on el cap 10.11.3
What are you guys doing when it crashes?

[Simon Ubsdell] “No, no, no – you should be using satellite timing. Don’t you know anything?!!
“Its actually starting to get super ridiculous around here to the point I dont want to read anymore.
People are coming up with great feature requests daily – YET the people here who know X the best (coughcoughbillandrobincoughcough) keep saying they dont need or want them and talk about some time in the future where all my daily needs will be absolete.
Well – wake up – Today is today and modern workflows are different for each and every person and shop.
You guys should want X to grow as much as possible – not hinder its growth because of a single minded mentality.

The ability to see 2 or more time codes at once is one of the main reasons I dont use FCPX more often.
In Avid my TC window which is always up – has about 6 lines of crucial information at a glance. Priceless IMO.
V1 TC Audio tracks 1,2,3 TC ( my syncd audio) Audio 4 TC (VO) Absolute Duration and Duration In/Out
Thats just one of my setups for Promo, Trailers and Commercials.

[John Rofrano] “Boris RED includes Graffiti and Continuum Complete functionality so you only need Boris RED. I’m not sure how Twixtor fits in. That’s a retiming tool not Motion Graphics. Actually the latest version of Continuum Complete includes Mocha functionality so I wouldn’t be surprised if the next version of RED has it too.”
Red sounds great on paper – but the interface and real time performance are horrendous.
Ive used it along with MC and as a standalone and its a real PITA.
What you cant beat is the price – for $299 upgrade from an old version of Red(Avid FX) bundled with MC4 you get ALOT of BCC filters, most of the useable stuff bread and butter stuff anyways, and a pretty bad ass titler for next to nothing.
I only am really using it now for the odd BCC filter and blending modes in MC and for that its great.

[Robin S. Kurz] “So I take it you missed this?
“Great – a 12 inch laptop? Who wants to edit on that?
All the people that brag about 4k native raw blah blah blah on an etch a sketch and all that – I’m like who the ef really cares?
