+1 on this – would also be interested in using such codecs (maybe even AVCHD) however in the meantime I am stocking up on 120GB drives and recording in DNxHD – this gives an hour+ of recording per drive and allows some time to copy the MXF files to a larger external hard drive in order to rotate the disk back into operation.
What would be a very useful gadget is a small field disk copy device that doesn’t require a PC/laptop to copy from an SSD to larger external SATA drive.
So a sort of portable standalone HDD docking station that can do fast disk copies of drives that are not the same size.
Maybe a mobile phone or tablet can provide the UI!Neil

Hello
Here are the 3 RTAS effects I used – please keep in mind that this was my attempt at following Peter’s instructions and I claim very little knowledge of what I did – only to say that I am determined to increase the audio quality of the corporate videos we do and all your assistance is greatly appreciated – because these changes have made the VO sound much much better.

Hello Peter
Your “voice unheard “recommendations already appear to make a great difference (although to be honest I am not sure how accurately I applied them!)
I have uploaded 2 very short clips
https://www.effectivevideo.co.za/agco.html for you to listen toHopefully they are long enough – if not let me know.
Thanks very much for the assistance – much appreciated

October 25, 2012 at 11:17 am in reply to: Any pro advice on fixing this sound would be greatly appreciatedHello
Thanks everyone for the replies – a few things here:
I was wearing headphones but it was a live recording, we were asked to record it at last minute and were not allowed to interrupt the presentation. We also had to set up between presentations and had about 20 minutes to get cameras, lights and sound in place – the room also had a projector running and aircon – so alternative audio feeds were not clean at allMy big mistake was not to get a second mic placed on the podium and to feed in the second channel on the camera from there.
(Well I did but the cable plug was faulty and I was not getting sound into that channel so switched both channels to the wireless lavier mic)The dreadful audio hiss appears to disappear when the speaker is quiet and is really noticeable when he speaks – so I don’t think it is radio interference – in fact it appears that the mic is faulty as I tested it in other cameras back at the studio and it does the same thing constantly now . It is not all that noticeable through an amp or mixing board so is going to be a bugger to fix! FWIW I have taken it in to the local AKG reseller to look at
After many hours of trying – I managed to get it to be sort of acceptable by first applying a light hiss removal in Audition 1.5, then reimporting into MC6 and applying a Real Time 7 channel; equaliser effect and dropping the 800Mhz (?) range – I am not at my workstation so this may not be entirely correct
Anyway it is listenable – but no means perfect
Thanks for all the input
Cheers

October 20, 2012 at 7:29 am in reply to: Cannot get Hyperdeck to to recognise exfat file systemHello
Just to close this thread
The fault was entirely due to a user ID-10-T error – everything was working fine from the beginning – but I seemed to think that previously with HFS disks the green SSD light on the shuttle remained green once the SSD was inserted and did not go off once it established that the disk was okay.
So when this happened with exFAT I thought it was a problem.
Somehow during all the testing and trial and error stuff that I did – I must have created an MBR partition and then the device started to show red on the SSD indicator.
Only after reverting to an HFS and seeing that the SSD light went off with this format drive inserted as well did I actually think to test the shuttle by recording some footage – Damn – it worked
I went back to ExFat and with the correct GUID partition the SS indicator light on the shuttle went on and off as well but video recorded correctly.
What a waste of a few hours – brings to mind that one should always RTFM!!!
Thanks
Neil

August 2, 2012 at 2:06 pm in reply to: Intensity Pro – Desktop VIdeo 9.6.1 does not work with Avid Media ComposerHello
Thank you for the update – much appreciated – just for completeness I am running MC 6.0.1.1
I also raised thiis in the Avid forums and it was confirmed by one other user who was also not able to run the latest desktop video with MC
I will await an update to the driver – at the moment the previous version is working fine for me and I probably don’t need the 9.6.1 update anywayThanks for your assistance

I see that BM has added ProRes to the Hyperdeck studio as a free software update –
Being an MC user on a PC I dont need Prores for the Hyperdeck shuttle but hopefully this means that additional codecs can be added to either the shuttle or the studio via a firmware update
Holding thumbs for more encoding optiopns on the shuttle
