I had a chance to do the test using a color chart and surprise! They all matched perfectly. No change between the scope in the camera or in the editor. No change between the raw mxf files and pro rez. It is obviously me being sloppy. I will pay more attention to levels, and make sure the viewfinder is balanced correctly. thanks for the help.

Yes, I use the waveform regularly, but have to admit not always. I use a scope on the NLE to correct and verify levels. I see the video in the VF, and it is around 80% white, but when it gets to the editor it’s more like 65 or 70.
Yes, FCP 7 handles the Sony mxf files, but only a few at a time. What I usually do is use Catalyst Browse to convert to ProRez 1080p, and edit that way. I will drop in the 4K mxf files here and there to be able to blow up and/or crop the frame to get a better look. FCP handles that just fine.
Do you think Catalyst Browse might be doing something? When I use it, I use the Rec 709 color space.

Found the boatload, and now know what I’m dealing with. However, I didn’t see anything that solved the problem. I have some solutions for future use, but a google search turned of nothing by way of any filters or techniques to compensate. I may have to reshoot this commercial if it looks too evident on air. Anyone know of anything I can do in post to reduce?

Yep. I’ve been running FCP on Mavericks for several months now. No problems at all.

Tried that, to no avail. When I open it in quicktime, it plays OK until I try to skip ahead a minute, then it gets out of sync. I looked at the attributes, then created a sequence to match that. 29.97, 16 bit audio 48khz. Didn’t work. This is crazy.

I matched the sequence to the clip. 24 bit audio, channel grouped.

February 21, 2015 at 12:30 am in reply to: current audio/video compression for computer playbackI have Compressor 3 and 4. Haven’t used 4 much yet. I see an H.264 main and baseline profiles. What is the difference, and which do you recommend? And for audio, 44.1 or 48kz?

February 19, 2015 at 9:43 pm in reply to: current audio/video compression for computer playbackThanks. I mostly use Compressor for this type work; not sure how to do this. If I select MPEG-4 as the video in the custom box, I assume that is the wrapper. How do I get the H.264 codec inside, or is that automatic?

Rathbone did do a good job the last time I had some rebuilt. The only problem was that it took six months to get the batteries back once I sent them in.
Thanks for your input.
