Forget it! As you said yourself there’s a theoretically infinite number of possible combinations and noone, not even our beloved Dan Ebberts, can think of them all beforehand. Writing a book about them could occupy a persons entire life. Better look into generic JavaScript/ Java programming sites for some inspiration. Also check sites such as AEnhancers.com. If you need specific input, feel free to ask questions here or on other forums. In your place I’d focus on things you need immediately in your everyday work rather than exploring too exotic and complicated stuff (of course this can be fun, too, though it’s not always practical).

You set some of your folder view options in Explorer differently and saved them as the default for all folders. Since all file requesters are basically Explorer windows, they will use that setting. Change it back in Explorer and everything should work as you want.

You will find everything in place in the project and should only need to replace footage and adjust composition sizes. The only reason for the complicated setup is in AE’s expression system – AE frowns on things such as renaming layers and compositions after they have been referenced in your expression. The expressions then stop to work and fixing them can become quite tedious if there are many such elements.

You can export both RLA and layered PSDs from Vue. You just have to use the proper render settings. Works like a charm.

I have no idea what you are talking about but I’m assuming you wanna see the text change as you type it in on the original layer. If so, your logic is flawed. Properties will only be evaluated once they exist or their values are set. That maybe awkward with text layers but actually avoids many errorswhen working with other types of expressions. So basically there is nothing you can do about it.

Mmh, I don’t really understand what your problem is (that growing beyond past Z is absolutely unclear)… The technique would work just as well in 3D given that you switch around a few variables and add the third dimension. If you need dashed or dotted lines, replace the solids with text layers and animate the start and end on a opacity selector. The problem is, however, that you need to adjust your text layers manually since there is no way to calculate the overall length in pixels from the typographic units – that info is nowhere accessible in AE.
