Sorry it took so long to respond. I’ve been up against it. That did the trick. I didn’t know you could import other Illustrator files and add them to the current file. Thank you!

Roland, your solution did the trick! Sorry it took me so long to get back, I had a lot of players to work through. I duplicated and simplified my original project to just the comps and layers I needed. I saved it as a template, although I didn’t actually change the extension. I then imported that project in my final project, once for each new instance. I renamed as necessary, and everything worked great! Thanks.

Thanks for your response, Andy! I wasn’t aware of the XDCAM Extract tool. That might be the solution! If I use Batch Capture to recapture the footage, will it try to bring it in as ProRes or will I be able to transfer XDCAM material? Will it do the whole preroll, digitize thing, similar to tape? I guess I don’t know what you mean by doing a baseband capture. What is that? Thanks.

If you have After Effects, Aharon Robinowitz has some great tutorials on the Cow. Check out:

Do you only have one U-1 and a Mac? We’ve successfully cloned XDCAM disks between 2 U-1’s on a PC. I’m not at the office, so I don’t remember the program. It’s one of Sony’s XDCAM programs for the PC. If you’re on an Intel Mac, maybe you could operate it as a PC using Windows, and then clone your disks to a virtual drive using Sony’s software. You could then clone it again to a new disk on the U-1. I don’t know if that will work or not.

I recommend checking out some of Larry Jordan’s articles if you’re just getting started with FCP. He has some good suggestions for how to organize your projects and media:

There are more free tutorials on his site, as well.

You should be able to just drop the 720P footage right on the timeline. FCP will handle the upconversion. Are both clips 20.97 fps? We do it all the time.

I’ve tried it after taking the 4gb of RAM out. I tried moving that 4gb to the DIMM 4 slot on both risers (1 stick on each). The render times don’t change much.

I’ll try taking out 4gb. All the sticks should be identical.

Thanks for your help. The computer originally came with 2gb of RAM, 1 gb on the top riser and 1 on the bottom, I believe. I ordered the 4gb from OWC, and replaced the original 2gb. Now, I’ve added 12 more- 6 2gb sticks. So, all 8 slots are filled with the same 2gb sticks from OWC.
