Separate partitions on the same drive will work just as well as long as you have enough space on the drive.

Hi,

You can do a capture now with FW Apple or FW basic or which will capture the clip up to the bad frames. Then log and capture a clip that starts a couple of frames past the dropout. This is tedious but it will allow you to get everything except one or two frames.

Another option that might work that was posted earlier was:
“I prefer to use the basic DV capture utility in Sorensen Squeeze 3 in this sort of capture problem instance. It has no setting controls whatsoever, and seems to ignore a lot of problems that more sophisticated programs don’t – and it captures FCP-compatible QuickTime clips.”

Get the additional RAM from crucial.com instead of Apple unless you like paying more.

For hard drives use SATA. If you need more than one additional drive you can add extra internal drives using the bracket reviewed here:

I am adding transitions to footage that was already edited so I cut the clips right at the end. I didn’t know I needed handles (normally they are there automatically).

Hi,

What worked best was to:
“Capture now” which aborts but saves the clip up to the point the failure occurred.
Examine the clip to see which was the last frame captured.
Do a batch capture starting two frames past the last frame. One frame past might have worked but I didn’t try that. With this footage the two missing frames are hard to notice.

Hi Bret,

Thats a great idea. I will give it a try. If it works it will be easier than editing together a mixture of iMovie and FCP clips.
