[Shane Ross] “FCP isn’t 100% accurate when you do an insert or assemble edit to tape. This from practical experience. A couple times when I output a show, first picture didn’t start at 1:00:00:00 like it should, but rather 1:00:00:01, or :02…and once at :00:59:59:23. Luckily for this show…a 90 minute show…it hit the hour mark right on. But, the 1:00 promo didn’t. It hit the 1:00:00:02 mark the first time.”
I know some people think that, but it’s incorrect. It’s pilot error. I can get 100% accuracy every single time doing insert edits, and always have for 4 years now. Same timecode in point 100 out of 100 times. I’ve even done it on a lowly DSR-11. On more sophisticated decks, it’s a given.
Apple doesn’t need to fix anything. You might want to do some research and then calibrate your decks and FCP…

[Shane Ross] “Since FCP doesn’t do insert edits well at all, we fixed them in a linear bay by adding a slight verticle blur.”
I’d be interested in hearing your logic on that point…

[Nick Franco] “a. does the card register?
b. does this resolve the problems with the clicks?also how does going back to a previouse driver work with final cut pro studio 5.1 which is what i’m on at the moment.”
Sorry for the delay in responding.
Actually, I never had problems with the card registering, just got the audio clicks. Aja tech support wanted me to try a few more things before giving up on the new 2.01 drivers. Here’s what they had me try:
1) Remove the “receipt” that wasn’t removed when I uninstalled.
2) Set the Kona as the audio device for both input and output in the OS X control panel.
3) Set the audio levels at 70% in the OS X control panel for input and output.I did all that and it removed many of the clicks, but I still get them each time I move in and out of ETT or the Log and Capture window. It’s better, but still not where I want it to be.
Hopefully tomorrow, I will have time to completely remove 2.01 and try 1.22 again. I really don’t like those “double clicks” I get every time I move in and out of ETT or the Capture window. With the 1.22 drivers I never had those, nor did I have to set the Kona as the audio device in the Control Panel. Much better I think…

Nick,
We have the same problem… and it started the day we installed the 2.01 drivers. Today we’re going back to the 1.3.x? drivers that did not do this.
FWIW, we went through hell with the Io, when new drivers brought the same problem. It was several versions before AJA fixed it in the Io…

[AJA Sales Department] “There will be a complete list of features in KONA v3 when it ships at month end. We will post here on the Cow when it is available for download. v3 will have benefits for non-Intel-based KONA owners too!”
You don’t mention non-Express models? Am I m istaken, or does the new Mac pro also support PCI-X cards as well as PCI-Express? If so, will version 3 support cards like the LH?

[Andy Mees] “in the world of broadcast news, where speed is of the essence, this product allows field editors, working on laptops, in XDCAM HD, HDV and/or other GOP formats, to output a live feed of their edit using HD/SD SDI, directly from the FCP timeline without having to conform the long gop first”
I would like to see that. I’m not sure how it can eliminate the hours of conforming during realtime playback… and more to the point, what compromises werre made in order to achieve it? We don’ use HDV, but I’d really be interested in hearing from someone who has used it for that, since it might be helpful to others.
On a side note, it is interesting to hear everyone’s reluctance with Matrox. I had predicted that they would have this problem. They are first and foremost a PC company and that will not change. AJA and BlackMagic are proven performers and haven’t left anyone hanging… there’s a great lesson there for all the manufacturers.

Recently found out that October is the new target for the CinePorter
