[Dennis Radeke] “Indeed. Mistake made, apology offered, nothing else to do but move on. To those of you who know Al, he is without doubt, one of the most sensitive people I know. NAB for a vendor is also pretty stressful. That’s not an excuse nor does his retracted statement reflect Adobe’s commitment and passion to our customers. He said something in the heat of the moment and quickly said, “I said something really stupid the other day, and I am really sorry. Thanks for calling me out. Normal service is resumed.”
’nuff said,”
Unfortunately this like discussing the Obamacare website. The underlying problem still exists with the program itself.
I’m not trying to be flip, but the unhappiness is with the subscription model and no misstep or apology takes that away. The problem is still there.
If you don’t believe me, look at what happened at the SuperMeet at NAB. Virtually no applause when Al came out. Damn little applause during his presentation, and damn little when he left. It was quite frankly, painful to watch… I felt bad for the guy. Lots of people left when he started. Almost no one had left up until then.
Is this because everyone is still mad at Al. I can’t speak for others, but I’m guessing not. I think that unfortunately his comment has made him the defacto poster boy for the subscription model. You’re right about Al… he’s a really nice guy. Anyone who has spent time around him knows that. I just think that this has become a case of “killing the messenger” so to speak…

[Shawn Larkin] “It’s been a while since I’ve chimed in on this stuff, but…
R11 can ripple its timeline very much the way X does without tracks. It’s really like a trackless-track NLE.
So they have ingest, edit, grade, master (export) all covered in one system.
They also have a plugin architecture that will allow for any number of things; including plugins to help motion graphic creation. OR..
If they build in 3D compositing, then it is basically a Smoke for free, and I have a feeling they will by the next release.
So for my money, I see this as an end-to-end tool for a ton of situations.”
Good summary… my thoughts exactly, but better phrased than I could have.
This whole thread is difficult to assess. Lots of people commenting with no way of knowing whether they’ve physically played with 11… seen 11 in person… just watched a video… or channeling from the netherworld.
I see people dissing it, but I’m not sure they have even seen it yet? I find that threads that reference getting a demo or testing it, or ones where they have clearly used it a lot more useful

[Tim Wilson] “What they’ve done with Resolve in these few short years make me think pretty much ANYTHING is realistic in the next few.”
Having spent almost an hour with it today, I agree with you.
I think people are underestimating this. The interface looks just like X to me, but with far better trimming tools and a bunch of things we had in 7 that we lost in X.
A friend of mine that was an FCP7 user that went to Premiere, but isn’t happy with the subscription model, is considering Resolve 11 as his primary editor…

[Dave Jenkins] “[Andy Neil] “”How about Ae being able to create templates featuring text you can edit in Premiere?””
What does this remind me of? Let me think…. Oh yeah FCP 7 & Motion.”
Each year at the SuperMeet Adobe explains their new features, and I turn to my Premiere using friend and say… seriously… they didn’t have that already? We had that in FCP7 (some things even before that).
Hopefully this year they’ll have some things that we can say… wish we had that in FCP X…

[Oliver Peters] “Since 10.1 is still recent, by that rationale – as is the new Mac Pro”
Maybe they’ll announce that they’ve figured out how to actually deliver the new Mac Pros? Two and half months and counting… some waiting 3 months already…

Very amusing. FWIW, I try to avoid the word expert… given that an “ex” is a has been and a “spurt” is a drip under pressure…

[David Powell] “You DO want Plural Eyes. You do not want to use FCP’s sync. PE will do in 20 seconds what will take FCP an eternity (in comparison) and usually won’t get the sync right. If you were using long clips then FCP would be ok, but wedding videography tends to have lots of starts and stops. As long as the audio is running PE will do the job so easy its stupid.”
Yep, PE does this better accidentally than FCP X does on purpose. It’s all I use, and it’s damned fast compared to X.
There are some people that are hell bent on doing everything in X… I’m more of a why not do it better , faster kinda guy…
