[Helmut Kobler] “Charles, I was indeed cutting with the Inspector open. I’ll try with it closed but that’s a horrible “solution” since I use the inspector all the time.”

You have it open all the time because you have to. Which is the point of this thread…

Apple forces you into the tedious 1990’s approach of using the Inspector to adjust things that we should be able to do on the timeline. If you had all the things Steve discussed then you could close the Inspector… which I think we would all do the minute we could…

Yep, agree with all of them. The really painful part? Most of them are things we USED to have!

Oh, but wait, that can’t be true because FCP X users universally agree that legacy sucked (sarcasm intentional).

[Aindreas Gallagher] “Apple might need to accept getting their hands dirty advancing X.
which goes back to the motivation problem: is there an apple team, hugely reduced, without pro-apps even on the mission statement, ready to play ball.

I actually think that article makes a lot of sense… in fact it seems like what Bill Davis has been saying since the beginning. I’m not sure I’m happy about that approach, but in the end, it is what it is…

[Bill Davis] “I’ll agree with the keyframes deal as well.

But of course, very few people will choose not to have lunch with, say, Heidi Klum because she might currently have a blemish behind one knee.”

I suppose it depends on how much key framing you do as to whether that blemish is behind a knee or on the end of her nose…

I just hope Apple realizes that the key framing in FCP X is the “least elegant”, “least Apple-like” thing in FCP X and puts it on the list…

[Aindreas Gallagher] “Seriously – keyframing has to be one of X’s weakest features.”

    I’ll agree with that…

[David Mathis] “I am ruining Resolve on a older mid 2012 Mac Pro. Could explain my experience.”

It’s different on a new MP… still needs work, but it isn’t as bad as I keep reading on this forum…

[David Mathis] “I also like how Motion takes the approach to what would be the equivalent of a pre-comp in After Effects or other layered based motion graphics software. No need to switch between tabs and using a simple keyboard shortcut makes things much more approachable and fast.”

Not to mention the speed. I just finished a series of projects that start in Motion and finish in FCP X. With Motion on a fully loaded New Mac Pro, the speed is amazing. I don’t need low res or any other settings off while designing in it. Playback is instant. Final renders are under a minute, with motion blur and the whole kitchen sink thrown at it. These used to take 45 minutes in some cases on an old Mac Pro.

Apple has a jewel with Motion… I just hope they realize it…

  • Tim,

I think we agreed on all those points. My point was what works in media hasn’t worked well in software. I also hope Apple leaves the subscription to media and not software.

As far as you commenting on subscription software, I think we all understand that you can’t comment…

[Steve Connor] “[Bill Davis] “Maybe it’s just me but I’d be delighted if X stays a bit still for the moment. ”

    Probably just you Bill”

Yeah, I was just wondering why anybody wouldn’t want forward progress?

And where the hell is the “Send to Motion” function…
