[gary adcock] “If LogC is grayed out- you have the Project menu incorrectly set to record content only as Rec 709”

    Thanks. Going to check.

If I remember correctly the build you tested had ProRes 4444 disabled. In ours it is enabled but the LogC is still grayed out.

[gary adcock] “First the ProRes from Alexa currently is Y’Cb’Cr not RGB, the current Alexa build that allows PropRes capture does not allow RGB capture to the SxS cards at this time.”

How would one tell? I have a bunch of Alexa footage in ProRes 4444. What is a quick way to tell whether it is RGB or YCbCr?

Maybe Blackmagic should stick a couple of Nvidia’s into a Multibridge.

  • [Johnny Smith] “All I’m asking is how come the EDL list I’m creating from fcp is not showing lab roll info??”

Because FCP doesn’t know which labroll a take comes from. When FCP generates an EDL it looks into the REEL field in its database. Chances are you have video tape number in that field, not a labroll number.

[Arthur Puig] “The best thing Apple could do now is to release OS X for any computer running intel.”

Would it instantly produce better graphics card drivers by some magic?

There is a Compressor plugin, QuVis Wraptor, for such tasks. Just be aware the company went bankrupt a while ago so though they seem to continue selling Wraptor it might not work with the latest version of Compressor. there is also easyDCP Creator by Fraunhofer IIS but it’s more expensive.

Dear colleagues, why don’t you all spend a few minutes to master Auto Select instead of hating it so much?

Tape-based back-up has been around for ages and the hardware has been progressing and evolving steadily. Software however looks and feels the same it did a decade ago. Where is an app that would take an EDL and retrieve exactly the frames used in this EDL from a library of LTO tapes? OK it’s really hard to do this trick with QT movies but why not with DPX sequences?

[Robert Monaghan] “So, if you are only converting the necessary R3Ds to DPX that are being used in your project, you would still have a project the same size as ARRIRAW. “

You are right of course, but the irony is the project size is roughly the same even if I don’t convert R3D to DPX before grading. There is no way to trim R3D. Well, The Foundry announced Storm but we haven’t tried it yet.

We aren’t committed 100% to either pre-debayer or native. We tried both and there is no clear winner. Our colorist is happy to have extra bits but too often there is just noise in those bits.
