    You are right;

    <- 960 x 720 HD pixels.>

… I checked my clips (and my sequence) in FCP,
    and it’s HD (960×720).

And what’s the difference between shooting 720p25 and
    720p50?

The reason I’m asking is that I did shoot 720p25 (due to nature of my output – YouTube),
and when I was just earlier checking the settings in FCP I realised that both clip settings and sequence settings are “Vid Rate” – 25 but for “Compressor” states DVCPRO HD 720p50??

    It’s really confusing…

After choosing HDTV 720p, the project opened and then I wanted to check
what are the “sequence setting” (like in FCP).
I went to preferences ad found that frame rate was still 29.97 so I copied the setting and changed it to
    25 fps.
Further, there is “Square” setting chosen for Pixel Aspect Ratio – should I leave that as is?

Finally, in Summary it states: “Use the preset for high definition HDV or broadcast TV projects…”
I mean, working on a DVCPRO HD project, should I worry about this?

    Thanks

    Thanks Rafael,

Would that Custom setting be any different from HDTV 720p setting?
Or, how would I know if that HDTV is 720p25 or is it 720p50?

Does the recommendation changes to 720p25 (vs 1080 i) if the
output was the web (YouTube, Vimeo or website)?

    Yes, export as is.

No, there should be no red or orange in your timeline if your footage (your clips)
are matching your Sequence Setting (your timeline).

Why did you go to Sequence Settings?

    1) Check. You Do WANT it to be selfcontained.

    2) You don’t need to go to sequence settings when exporting.
You just make sure that your sequence / timeline is fully rendered and then go to Export menu.
Or select your sequence in Browser and then go to Export.

Your Sequence Settings should have been already set before you started editing.
That 16:9 should have already been checked.
Do you have any orange or red unrenderred bars in your timeline?

Stacey, the problem is between Quick Time and iDVD and their understanding of 16:9 flag.

There is a workaround, it’s called Anamorphicizer, it’s a little application that gives to your Quick Time movie a 16:9 flag that iDVD will understand.

Used few years ago, but from I recall, once you are finished with FCP, Export your sequence
as normally; Export > QuickTime Movie (Current Settings, but tick Make Movie Selfocontained)

Once you’ve got your Quick Time movie exported, just drop it onto Anamorphicizer ( it takes only few seconds from what I remember) and it will make your QT movie ready for iDVD.

Yes Jan, unless your next camera is HDV then you can use FS-4 Pro (I think the model is)
    for both DV and HDV.

I wasn’t that “lucky”, I went for DVCPRO HD (Panasonic HPX 170), P2 solid state memory, which doesn’t really need a Firestore backup (although I liked that security anyway) but the P2 cards are expensive, each 64 GB card is “another Firestore” in price.

I meant to say, jump to HD does require some planning and budgeting and some workflow rearrangement.

It’s good that you decided on MacBook Pro 17″, it gives you more options.

Yes, that’s what he meant. You can connect up to 16 drives in one chain (in theory),
in practice, I don’t know how many people are using that feature and with how much success.

Again, Canon is known to have a temperamental firewire interface.

Some models are hard enough to get to work via firewire, let alone to connect them in firewire chain.

For example, my Canon camera sometimes wouldn’t accept the port in my screen, only the firewire port on the front of my Mac.
Sometimes, when I connect my Canon to the Mac, Final Cut would start spinning the ball, once I disconnect the camera everything would go back to normal.
