Why is my iDVD burning a 16:9 video as a 4:9 ?
I’m having major problems with iDVD.
Apparently, I burned a DVD and the aspect ratio was exported as 16:9, when I brought it into iDVD it burned it as a 4:9 (even though the movie file was exported as 16:9 & the iDVD project was set to 16:9)
The weird thing is, the aspect ratio of the menu was still 16:9, but when you played the project on a mac, everyone looked squished!
Where did it go wrong? Or how can I make sure everything will come out right?
My compressor is not working, all I have is FCP to export and iDVD to burn, since I don’t have DVD Studio Pro 🙁
Can anyone help pls?

Stacey, the problem is between Quick Time and iDVD and their understanding of 16:9 flag.
There is a workaround, it’s called Anamorphicizer, it’s a little application that gives to your Quick Time movie a 16:9 flag that iDVD will understand.
Used few years ago, but from I recall, once you are finished with FCP, Export your sequence
as normally; Export > QuickTime Movie (Current Settings, but tick Make Movie Selfocontained)Once you’ve got your Quick Time movie exported, just drop it onto Anamorphicizer ( it takes only few seconds from what I remember) and it will make your QT movie ready for iDVD.

Just had two questions to ask about what you said.
1) Should I check or uncheck the Make Movie Self-Contained?
2) I posted a picture under this (which I hope it did post) and right next to Pixel Aspect Ratio should I click the anamorphic 16:9 or just click OK and continue to Anamorphicizer?

1) Check. You Do WANT it to be selfcontained.
2) You don’t need to go to sequence settings when exporting.
You just make sure that your sequence / timeline is fully rendered and then go to Export menu.
Or select your sequence in Browser and then go to Export.Your Sequence Settings should have been already set before you started editing.
That 16:9 should have already been checked.

No, there should be no red or orange in your timeline if your footage (your clips)
are matching your Sequence Setting (your timeline).Why did you go to Sequence Settings?

Gotcha! Cool, alright no red then.
I was checking the settings to export to see what they had on there and making sure it didn’t say anything about 4:3.
So I’ll export as is correct?
