It’s simple. Once you’ve got you’ve got your blank text clip on your timeline (it says Sample Text in the box), double click that clip to open it in the Viewer. Now highlight that “Sample Text” text in Viewer’s Control tab.
Access your Character Palette from desktop’s bar – Show Character Palette.
Character Palette will pop up on top of your Final Cut.
Now, choose one letter you want to use and click Insert with Font button on the bottom
of the Character Palette. You will see that letter now in your Control tab in your Viewer.
Now select the second letter, this is how it works for me, letter by letter. Some letters might not show up correctly in your Control tab, but if you check in Timeline,
they look exactly as in Character Palette.Mio

Jana,
I don’t get it. Do you import footage from Firestore or from P2 cards?
I’m currently looking at getting the FS-100 (currently using FS4Pro for my SD workflow with Canons)
exactly for that reason – to avoid the all P2 import / ingest / back up quagmire. Are you trying to say that Mac sees your footage somehow as P2 source even though is imported from Firestore as QuickTime. Am I not reading something properly in your post or I’m just misinformed.
Logic behind my idea of Firestore is to avoid the need of backing up P2 cards in the field and use the
Firestore to transfer the QT files to my scratch drive later, and my P2 cards we’ll serve just as a back-up
until the Firestore is offloaded to 2 drives at the studio.Mio

What version of FCP is installed on your G5?
My G5 (FCP 5.0.4) couldn’t see (import) 720p clips, but had no problems with 1080i.
Of course my MBP with FCP 5.1.4 has no problems with either of those formats.
Just a hint from me, otherwise, Shane can better solve your problem.

There are many reviews for HPX 170 you can find on the web;
https://www.macvideo.tv/camera-technology/reviews/index.cfm?reviewid=111633…and this one with direct comparison between 200, 200A and 170

Using 170 as well, but on FCP 5.1.4 and on FCP 5.0.4 on two different machine (G5 and MBP)…
Anyway, I don’t think your problem is there – you mentioned USB – you should use FIREWIRE port.Of course, I believe you are in proper MODE (select 1394 MODE through OTHER FUNCTIONS menu.
Finally, by pressing the MODE button bring the camera into 1394 HOST mode,
check the manual for details.Mio

Theoretically h.264 would be your best pick as Flash now is based on the same codec .f4v versus mac’s .m4v), but as your PC mates are still in stone age with Flash 5 so that won’t work (they should upgrade first then they can give lessons).
Secondly, exporting to iPod can give you .m4v and the movies are OK on latest PCs (for the above reason)
and for the fact that many PCs have iTunes now installed. Of course, this is only OK if iPod size is not too small (in that case go for the first solution, custom made h.264).Finally, uploadt your DVCPro file to Vimeo and they’ll encode it for you, then tell the PC australopithecus’
to embed that video – voila, no need to go thru their beige boxes at all 🙂P.S. david bogie – LOL! It’s so true!

Why not use firestore FS-100 (160 GB model only $999 at Vdeoguys.com).
I know it can be dicy, most problems occurred (with my FS-4) with firewire cable detaching from
my Canon’s firewire port.
But with HPX170, I’d use it on camera, and with camera’s 6 pin firewire port I don’t
think it’d be too much trouble. So, financially, it’s just like another 64 GB P2 card, but additional benefit of having a back up plus
Firestore records it in QuickTime file, so no need for expensive additional equipment (Duel, PC’s, laptops, P2 Stores etc.).If Firestore misfires occasionally, you still have your footage on your P2 card(s) and for those
rare occasions you can always import footage via camera.Mio

Shane, he’s talking about MacPro and MacBook (not pro).
So, is it possible that his MacBook’s insufficient graphic card is not able to
show the P2 footage?Mio

Shane, I don’t know is it me, or just that this is so confusing.
How you do you explain what’s written on the bottom of the page for Mac downloads;
“No Need the following driver for Mac…” then is the chart … “USB : No need driver
1394a: No need driver” and pointing to HPX170 series!?Which driver is not needed?
Does it mean, for HPX 170 owners, we don’t need to install USB Driver and 1394 Driver,
but we do need to install other drivers from the package (PCI Express Driver, Card Bus Driver, P2 Store Manager and P2 Card Formatter)? It’s frustrating that we are seeing so many questions on these topics, something
that should be so straightforward. I haven’t seen these many questions for any other
format or any other supplier. Shame on Panasonic.Mio
