I’ll let you know that soon. I’ll be upgrading to Home Premium from Vista SP2. (which, by the way, was miles ahead of XP for CS3 and 4.

  • What we will be doing is essentially commercial work, from 30 second ads to the 30 minute training video. Features are not planned as of yet but will be something considered in the near future (by May 2010).

As of now I was considering a workflow of 3 systems, each with a specific purpose. One for the main edit, one for the special effects of the pieces required and one for the sound and music. The linkage right now would be based on a draft version of the edit would be done and uploaded to a network hard drive, from there, the computers for special effects and sound would take this draft piece (be it in a playable file format such as an avi or mov) and do their work based on this whilst the editing system continues to add the final touches to the piece.

In the end, the editing system will access the content of the music and graphics from the network drive and create the final piece to be distributed.

Right now we will be using the Adobe CS4 and all of its applications for this process. However, I don’t know how sustainable the dynamic link feature in this program would be for this method. (network storage)

Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Or even greater, your insight into an already existing and successful system in the field of work I am describing.

Thanks Eric. I know some after effects and I’m exploring this possibility. It should most likely work, thanks for the assistance.

Oh is it? What is being sought after now instead?

Would need to know since most of my equipment is geared towards HDV and I would like to know what I should be focusing on in the coming months.

He can try Format factory which can take almost any video or sound format and convert it to something else. Best of all, its free, so saves you some cash in your pocket.

May I suggest if that is the case to create a partition on your hard drive solely dedicated to editing, perhaps just enough to house the creative suite you are using.

At least this way you can ensure nothing else is running other than your editing program.

Also, consider an external hard drive for your content, the performance will be much better than using the same drive for everything.

Furthermore, premiere takes some time to relink the files when you are opening an existing project. This has been improved on in cs4 updates but it still remains a slight wait before the project fully loads. I prefer this actually as final cut just checks to see if the drive with content is still there but not for the actual content itself which can lead to problems if you are missing files.

Finally, I’d advise you to save cash towards an editing rig. I once had only one machine for all my stuff, gaming, editing, etc. But then I bought myself a Dell Studio XPS Desktop from the earnings of the jobs. The great thing about this desktop is that it has an i7 core processor, ati graphics, completely geared towards content creation and less than $1000 for the base system. I am using the base system and it is running premiere pro like a pro. lol.

July 3, 2009 at 9:38 pm in reply to: How to encode for You Tube?

Oh sorry. The format is an FLV file. That’s how I saved it to get those file sizes. The encoding process can take a while though but very much worth it.
