Wow, that worked! Thanks a lot. If you’re still in a giving mood, I have a couple of follow up questions. Is there a way to keep it in whole numbers, in other words, get rid of the decimal places? Also, would like to line up the “10” in the proper place at the end. Thanks a million –

Hi, and thanks for your help. I’m still stumped, mostly because I don’t have much experience manipulating text layers, other than position, scale, etc. When I make a new text layer, do I have to first select something from the Animate menu (in the layer) before I can add an expression? Under the animate menu, there’s a choice for character value – is that what I want?

Then, I assume I select Selector>>Expression from the Add menu. (Again, in the layer). But then what exactly do I do? I tried opening up Expression Selector 1, and then pasted in your expression, over where it says selectorValue * textIndex/textTotal. I tried that, but nothing happens.

Again, thanks for your guidance. This is a whole new level of AE for me. I’ve gotten this far by reading the manual, but I’m not sure if I’m on the right track.

    >>>Hey, Mike…Four letters: k-c-r-g. Ring any bells?

    Hello Dave

I’ve heard of KCRG in Cedar Rapids because I went to school in Iowa City a long time ago. But I don’t believe we’ve met. Or have we???

    Hi Jeremy

Thanks for your repsonse. I tried what you said and unfortanately it didn’t work. Here’s exactly what I did:

    – Single clicked sequence
    – Opened Media Manager
    – Set it like this:
    Media: Create offline
Set sequences to DV NTSC 48 kHz
checked Include master clips outside selection
checked Delete unused media drom duplicated items
    unchecked Use Handles
tnchecked Include affiliate clips outside selection
Base media file names on exisiting file names
Project: checked Include nonactive multipclip angles

After doing all that, a new project was made. The media is offline, both in my Master Clips folder and in the sequence.

I single clicked the sequence, and then chose Batch Capture from the File menu

    Batch Capture window:
    Capture: All Selected Items
Optoins: checked Use Logged Clip Settings (also tried unchecked)
Catpure preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz

At the bottom, under total media time, it says the length of the original big clip, not the sum of the edit clips. When I click OK, again it indicates that it will capture one clip with the original length. Any ideas?

I read Joe’s response too, as well as some discussion from a couple of weeks ago about similar problems in FCP 5. I’m coming over from Media 100, and don’t have much experience with FCP 4.5 or earlier regarding the media manager, so it’s hard for me to judge if what’s going on is “normal” or not. It sure seems difficult.

Thanks again for your time and advice –

July 28, 2005 at 5:22 pm in reply to: Is there a way to Relink Offline files?

I’ve found this to be an irritation myself for bigger projects. I sometimes move a project between 2 or 3 different M100 systems, and whenever I do, the project file loses its link to the bins & programs. You have to reopen all the bins & programs, and then delete the “offline” files.

For large projects with lots of bins & pgms, I often make sub-folders in the project for organizational purposes, and I wind up having to refile all my bins & pgms when switching systems. It’d be great if M100 could seek out & relink to them automatically (or even manually).

    Hi Jerome

Hit the “clear” key on your keypad. That will toggle the keypad functionality. You can also toggle using the triangle/keypad icon in the menu bar, just the right of Window.
