motion path following a mask
In AE 6.5, I want to have a picture follow a path, specifically a circular path.
I’ve done this effect before in AE 5.5, using this strategy:
1) Make a new solid layer. Create a circle shaped mask. Hide the layer. Click on the mask and copy (command-C)
2) On my layer with the picture, open up the Transition settings, highlight the Position setting, and then paste (command-V) the mask. Automatically, new position keyframes are created, and the picture is set up to follow the circle mask’s path in a 2 second period. I adjust from there.I’m now using AE 6.5, and am trying to do the same exact thing. However, in AE 6.5 when I paste the mask, it just applies the mask to the whole layer, and doesn’t affect the position at all. I checked the manual, and it still seems to suggest doing it the old way, the way that worked in AE 5.5. Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

Just click the position stopwatch to create a keyframe, then paste.

You will have to select either the keyframe or the i-beam of the mask shape property for this to work. And as Dan suggested, you will also have to select the position parameter’s keyframe or I-beam before pasting. There was some change but I can’t recall if it was implemented in 5.5 or 6 or even 6.5
