We’re having similar FC7 multipclip issues. Hopefully just a bug that will be fixed soon?

    Bob –

Was this new in FCP 7? I am currently using FCP 6.0.6 (waiting until I get through some major projects before upgrading to v.7). I have CS4 installed on my system. Flash does not show up as an export option in either Final Cut Pro or Quicktime Player.

I currently export a QT movie from FCP (either stand-alone or reference), and then use Adobe Media Encoder CS4 to encode to Flash. But it’d be nice to export right from my timeline using FCP, so maybe that’s a feature to look forward to in version 7?

Strangely, I think when we had CS3, Flash was an export option from Quicktime.

    thanks
    Mike

Our campus (UC San Diego) bookstore sells it for $299, so it’s worth it to check and see if your academic affiliation has some sort of deal going on.

Yeah, but that only works if I have physical access to both computers to start up iChat! Or someone to start up iChat for me on the remote computer.

Though I guess a workaround to use both – Screen Sharing to log in and start up iChat on the remote computer, then quit Screen Sharing and use iChat’s screen sharing function, with the looped audio scenario you described. Might actually work…

This is a great tip, Russell. I knew about the Screen Sharing app, but didn’t know you could get there through a browser / IP address combo. If only there were a way to get system audio running through Screen Sharing, I could practically edit from anywhere, at least roughly. From what I can tell Screen Sharing does video only.

June 18, 2009 at 3:44 am in reply to: FCP issues on new Mac Pro?

Travis – Did you ever get this issue resolved? I have the exact same new Mac Pro as you – 2.26 dual processor, quad core intel xeon, 16 gigs of ram, Ati radeon HD 4870 graphics card. I am getting green bars when I shouldn’t be. My test is this:

    – Place a Bars & Tone NTSC clip onto a standard DV NTSC timeline
    – Start adding broadcast safe filters to the color bars.

    Results:
    – On my brand new Mac Pro, on only the 2nd Broadcast safe filter added, the timeline render bar turns bright green
    – On my year old 2.16 Ghz dual Intel iMac, I can drop on 4 filters before it turns green
    – On my older Intel, (last years model, NVIDIA 8800 card, 8 GB RAM), I can stack on 7 filters before it turns green

Clearly something’s amiss here! I should add that on all 3 computers, my timeline settings are identical. Please share with us if you solved your problem and/or learned any new information from Apple. Thanks!

    Hi
I’m thinking about getting the ATI Radeon HD 4870 card in my new Mac, but I use Graffiti 5.3, and your post has me concerned. I went to the Boris website, but can’t find anywhere where they list approved/not approved graphics cards. Can you provide a link? Also, was your problem ever resolved? Thanks-

    Mike

I think what your saying is more or less the same as my “last resort” option in the original post. In other words, doing my text on a 4:3 timeline with all the footage being letterboxed. One reason I prefer to stay in a 16:9 timeline is that another delivery format for me is DVD, and I’d much rather my material displayed full quality, full screen on a widescreen TV, rather than being letterboxed and pillarboxed. Also I like to use Motion to make my graphics and lower thirds, and I like working in a 16:9 canvas.
