July 8, 2009 at 5:52 pmCool thing is that you don’t even need to open iChat. Turn screen sharing on in the sharing pane of system preferences. Change the settings so that remote people can log in with username and password. Then open safari and type in vnc://(insert ip address here). This works great and means you don’t need access to the other computer at all.
I have found that the other computer should have a monitor connected and turned on, or FCP gives some crazy error that you don’t have a compatible graphics card.

July 8, 2009 at 6:10 pmLooks like it’s time for you to upgrade:) iChat sharing also requires 10.5.
You might try to fine a free vnc program that will allow you to do what you want. But the integration into 10.5 is very useful.

July 8, 2009 at 6:14 pmRemote desktop is like $300. 10.5 is $129. Both would do what you want. I know where I would put my money.

July 8, 2009 at 7:50 pmThis is a great tip, Russell. I knew about the Screen Sharing app, but didn’t know you could get there through a browser / IP address combo. If only there were a way to get system audio running through Screen Sharing, I could practically edit from anywhere, at least roughly. From what I can tell Screen Sharing does video only.

iChat will 😉 Run the audio out ot the audio in of the computer that is getting it’s screen shared, then in iChat turn the audio input from internal mic to line in.
Alright, what ya got on that, Russel? 🙂
