Yeah, but that only works if I have physical access to both computers to start up iChat! Or someone to start up iChat for me on the remote computer.

Though I guess a workaround to use both – Screen Sharing to log in and start up iChat on the remote computer, then quit Screen Sharing and use iChat’s screen sharing function, with the looped audio scenario you described. Might actually work…

you can also also use chicken of the vnc if connecting on a mac or realvnc on a pc

problems you may have if accessing remotely would be bandwidth not good for editiing and port forarding addresses and firewalls may get in the way

plus it aint that secure opening a machine to the world

[Jeremy Garchow] “Alright, what ya got on that, Russel? 🙂 “

You get major creative points with that one:) I think Mike Weber added to it. Use the built in VNC to accept the iChat, so nobody has to be on the computer. Interesting idea.

I use the built in vnc all the time to check on renders or get new ones started. It’s great for when nobody’s in the office, but I still need to get stuff done from home over the weekend. I don’t have to bring the computers home with me now to babysit renders.

Definitely a great call on the looping audio though!

I’ve just written a short article which addresses this. Hope this is helpful to you, instead of using iChat as your conduit, this uses hamachi VPN to negotiate the connections.
