converting video to FLV via FCP 7
Posted by Chris Church on September 9, 2009 at 1:36 pmHi there,
can anyone tell me whether FCP 7 no allows you to convert and export timeline footage to an FLV file directly from FCP or do you still ahve to use a Flash Video programme
Cheers

September 9, 2009 at 2:26 pmYou need the Quicktimes FLV Component installed, the Flash shows as an option when exporting with QT Conveersion or compressor.
I don’t know if that component can be bought as stand alone.

September 9, 2009 at 2:37 pmPerhaps others more knowledgeable will point out some problems but I’ve found that h.264 is supported by flash so I just rename them with a .flv extension. No complaints yet.

September 9, 2009 at 2:44 pmHi Johnny so you create your timeline footage at for arguments sake dvcpro50 and export the movie using h.264 then deliver your file as .flv and works on a website with as good quality as FLV?

A company called On2 makes a plug-in called
Flix for exporting to flv from within Final Cut. I use it all the time.Herb Sevush

September 9, 2009 at 3:05 pmDitto. Export as H.264 and relabel the file as .flv as Johnny says. Works with Flash Player version 9 which is very widespread.

September 9, 2009 at 3:36 pmIf you have Adobe CS3 or CS4 with Adobe Flash, File/Export/Quicktime Conversion gives you a Flash option.
Didn’t know about the H264 being renamed as .flv. Very interesting; maybe I’m too conservative but that hits me as potentially causing a problem down the line.

Was this new in FCP 7? I am currently using FCP 6.0.6 (waiting until I get through some major projects before upgrading to v.7). I have CS4 installed on my system. Flash does not show up as an export option in either Final Cut Pro or Quicktime Player.
I currently export a QT movie from FCP (either stand-alone or reference), and then use Adobe Media Encoder CS4 to encode to Flash. But it’d be nice to export right from my timeline using FCP, so maybe that’s a feature to look forward to in version 7?
Strangely, I think when we had CS3, Flash was an export option from Quicktime.
thanks

September 9, 2009 at 8:18 pmI was skeptical about this at first, but Flash has broad compatibility with H.264 and AAC audio. This FAQ fills in the details some.

No problems at all. They can be played by QT and Flash.
