Just install the latest version, it will update Window’s Device Manager which is where all apps access codecs.Steve,
I am never sure about anything, but if I was a bettin guy, I would give you 3;2 odds I am right. Pro uses the codec internally only. There is no mention of it for any export options unless the paid for version is installed.. -
I think Pro has a 4,000 pixel limit on height or width resolution. 8 megapixels should be 6,400.
Like David suggests, resize to about 1,200 x 900 bitmaps. -
The Main Concept codec is available;
File>Export>Movie>Settings>General>File Type= Microsoft AVI (not DV).
Then Click Video and change the compressor to the Main Concept DV Codec 2.4.11Steve;
My understanding is that Pro’s native MC codec use is for the creation of Preview files only. Exporting a DV.avi uses Microsoft DirecrShow codec.
I have also done testing that shows a marked difference after 3 generations between both export options. -
Once installed, the Main Concept codec will be available as an export option in AE as well’
It is a high quality codec like Avid, Camopus and Matrox. -
The most powerfull color correction tools are in the Color Corector effect…the HSL Hue Offsets. Try pulling the Master out a small amount in the 10 O’clock direction for the first image.

Jpegs are fine, although using PSDs allow you to edit and save changes without recompression.
Unsafe colors, especially reds will run on a TV. If the still is a photo, try desaturing the still a bit. If it is CG, change the reds to RGB levels below 235. -
Chromakey in Pro on DV footage can be challenging. Try using a 16 point garbage matte first to get rid of the bulk of the background.
After Effects has much better tools for this. -
Microsoft DV uncompressed,
Microsoft DV as all DV video is highly compressed to begin with. Adding effects in Pro and then again in AE can cause noticable generational loss. Switching to an analog codec wont help. The Main Concept DV codec works much better than MS over several generations. It is about $50.

Hold the Ctrl and Shift keys down while launching Premiere, this will delete a possible corrupt Preference file. Reset your preferences.
