With Quicktime player installed on yourPC,Premiere will import most QT codecs except Mp4. Try updating your QT player.

I have been teaching Premiere 2 on about 20 different PCs in the last few months, including some dual Zeons, 3.4 ghz, 4 GB RAM, 1 Tb Raid and the issues I see are on occasion some function/command will just stop working and restarting the PC fixes that. We did have one occasion to use the Auto saved version of the Project.
Also Pro and Elements crash when trying to burn DVDs, although Encore can.I would update video and sound card drivers with vendor versions, failing that, update the BIOS.

The Preference must be changed PRIOR to importing the pics into the project.

Most digital camcorders can convert an analog signal (from the still cam) to digital video. Most can simply “pass thru” the conversion to your PC on the fly, others can only record to tape.

Almost…use the Track Select tool with the Alt key to select all audio in one track and then Delete, repeat for each track.

Assuming you can hear the audio play on the timeline, there are 2 check boxes in Export Settings…one for video and the other for audio, are both checked?
What audio compressor are you choosing…Windows Media Audio 9.1?? What version of Media Player do you have? -
You will need After Effects to do exactly what you need, but a workaround in Pro might involve cutting your clip up in a number of small sections and applying an increasing amount to each section.

Dont expect similar results unless your video was shot with a film camera, prfectly lit, then compressed with a hardware solution by a full time compressionist…but try creating a custom preset for Windows Media Video 9;
2 pass variable constrained, average bitrate = 1 mbps, peak bitrate 1.5 kbps , 480 x 360 29.97fps, deinterlaced square pixels, 192 kbps audio. Also turn on Video Noise reduction filter in the encoder at the default level.
