Aah, I remember that job – or was it another several just like it? And NLEs, magic as they are, do nothing to make this kind of client more collaborative, switched on, capable or decisive – they just allow faster iteration through even more vacillations … happy days!

Do it once, of course, and what will they come back to you for the next time …? You’d already have shown you have no regard for copyright, performance rights. An amateur might get away with it.

If they really want to do this, of course you could always get a list of desired scenes / movies, contact the rights holders, and ask them for a freebie for the church, or what might want to charge ..

Alternatively, you could suggest putting together a bunch of cameo scenes that make similar points, and filming them (with congregation members as actors? With local pro actors? ) …

If you use opacity to fade, are you using a black clip on the timeline to fade to ..?

I’ve seen this done in post as described – a background shot of a room without an incoming bull(in this case), a bluescreen shot of the bull charging, and a blue screen shot of the (in this case) grannie being gored.

The crew used a big boxing glove on a pole to “hit” her and give her something to react to, and had her dragged out fast by a wire around her waist, while another wire on a runner overhead helped keep her folded-at-the-waist and upright, rather than flattened.

All keyed in a DS Nitris system (in near-realtime in Hi Def), the composite worked – the shot “sold”, even to close-watching and critical audiences.

Thanks, Eric – obvious as soon as you mention it. My dumb.

I’m still using 1.5 here, and haven’t experimented even with the 2 trial yet. It wouldn’t have seemed to much to hope for that the home key + some modifier (alt? ctrl? shift?) might go to beginning of clip; it seems a surprise that Adobe haven’t offered that.

Just remind me how the beginning or end of a highlighted clip differs from previous or next edit points …?
